I WOULD LIKE TO ACKNOWLEDGE KELLY KOCALIS AND THE SAN DIMAS DRAMA CLUB FOR A JOB VERY WELL DONE.
THEY PRESENTED A STREAMING PRODUCTION OF WITH THEIR EYES.
IN THIS IN ENGLISH TEACHER AT A HIGH SCHOOL THAT WAS FOUR BLOCKS AWAY FROM GROUND ZERO ON 9/11, HAD HER STUDENTS DOCUMENT WHAT THEY WENT THROUGH.
THEY INTERVIEWED OTHERS AT THEIR SCHOOL.
THEY LISTENED TO THEIR STORIES AND HEARD ABOUT THEIR PERSPECTIVES OF THE TRAGEDIES AND THE EFFECTS ON THEIR LIVES.
THIS WAS TURNED INTO A PLAY WHERE OTHERS PORTRAY THESE STUDENTS AND THEIR STORIES.
OUR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS GAVE A VERY POWERFUL PERFORMANCE USING TECHNOLOGY AND FINDING A CREATIVE WAY TO SHARE THEIR ART.
OUR STUDENTS HADN'T EVEN BEEN BORN WHEN OUR COUNTRY WENT THROUGH THIS, AND I'M SURE THEY LEARNED A LOT FROM THE STUDENTS AT STUYVESANT HIGH ALSO.
AND THAT'S IT. FIRST, I'D LIKE TO START OFF THANKING THE LA VERNE AND SAN DIMAS ROTARIES.
THEY DO OUR COMMUNITY GROUPS DO A LOT FOR OUR COMMUNITY.
AND I THINK LA VERNE ROTARY ENDED UP GIVING OUR DAYCARE STAFF DONUTS AND THEY KIND OF JUST LET THEM KNOW THAT OUR COMMUNITY SUPPORTS ALL THE HARD WORK THEY'RE DOING.
AND THE SAN DIMAS ROTARY, THEY ENDED UP GETTING A GRANT SO THAT OUR STAFF, OUR TEACHERS CAN GET I GUESS THEY GET TO GO THROUGH MASTER CLASS.
AND THAT SEEMED LIKE AN AMAZING GIFT.
SO JUST THANK YOU TO ALL THE COMMUNITY GROUPS THAT ARE SUPPORTING OUR STUDENTS WHO ARE SUPPORTING OUR STAFF.

AT THE BCA, THERE'S THE BONITA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT CANDIDATES FORUM.
THAT SHOULD BE PRETTY EXCITING IF YOU HAD A CHANCE TO WATCH THEM.
THERE'S GREAT CANDIDATES RUNNING.
THEY ALL SEEM LIKE VERY WONDERFUL PEOPLE, TOO, I KNOW WHO ARE ON THE DAIS.
AND WHAT'S GREAT IS EVERYONE HAS A LITTLE BIT OF A DIFFERENT VISION.
SO THEY SEEM TO ALL HAVE THE RIGHT MOTIVES, BUT WITH A DIFFERENT VISION.
SO I WOULD JUST ENCOURAGE YOU, THERE'S ONLY THREE SPOTS.
PLEASE CHECK OUT THE CANDIDATE AND PLEASE REMEMBER TO VOTE BECAUSE IT'S AN IMPORTANT ELECTION AND IT'S ALWAYS HARD WHEN YOU HAVE TO RUN ELECTION.

SAN DIMAS HAS ON OCTOBER 23RD AND 24TH, THEIR HALLOWEEN SPOOKTACULAR AT HORSETHIEF CANYON AND LA VERNE ALSO HAS THEIR EVENT.
AND I THINK THAT'S BY CITY HALL FROM ON OCTOBER 31ST, FROM FIVE TO EIGHT P.M.
. ON NOVEMBER 8TH THROUGH THE 28TH, THE [INAUDIBLE] FOUNDATION IS HAVING THEIR FIVE K

IT'S THERE ARE SO FEW SIGNS OF SCHOOL ACTUALLY GOING ON.
IT'S NICE TO SEE SOMETHING OUT IN THE COMMUNITY WHERE THERE'S EVIDENCE OF STUDENTS GOING TO SCHOOL.
BUT I WILL MENTION THE EVENT THAT THE BCA IS A CLOSED EVENT THAT'S NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, OF COURSE, BECAUSE OF COVID.
BUT I BELIEVE THAT'S GOING TO BE TELEVISED ON THE LOCAL CHANNELS FOR IN LA VERNE AND IN SAN DIMAS. AND THANKS OUT TO THE SAN DIMAS CHAMBER AND THE LA VERNE CHAMBER FOR SPONSORING AND PUTTING THAT ON, AND THAT'S ALL I'VE GOT THIS EVENING.
WELL, IN ADDITION TO THE AP TESTING SIGNS, I'VE SEEN A LOT OF SIGNS OUT FOR THE SCHOOL PRIDE THAT A. BOB KAT LIVES HERE, OR SHOLE SHARK LIVES HERE, EACH SCHOOL SEEMS TO HAVE THEM OUT IN THEIR KID'S YARD AND THEN THE TEACHERS THAT LIVE IN THE DISTRICT ARE GETTING SIGNS PUT IN THEIR YARD BY SOME OF THE SCHOOLS CONGRATULATING THEM THAT HE IS A TEACHER LIVES HERE. SO I THINK IT'S NICE THAT THE PTA'S ARE GETTING OUT AND INVOLVED AND GETTING THE SIGNS OUT TO EVERYONE.
AND ONE THING I'VE NOTICED WHEN I'VE BEEN OUT CAMPAIGNING THIS LAST FEW MONTHS AND WE'LL HAVE A REPORT ON IT LATER TONIGHT, IS HOW WELL DISTANCE LEARNING HAS BEEN GOING.
I EXPECTED A LOT OF NEGATIVE COMMENTS, BUT EVERYTHING HAS BEEN POSITIVE AND THE FEW NEGATIVE COMMENTS HAVE BEEN MORE ABOUT INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS OR THEIR SERVICE PROVIDER, BE IT SPECTRUM, FRONTIER OR WHOEVER THEY HAVE, HAVING AN OUTAGE IN THEIR AREA AND LOSING CONNECTIVITY, WHICH WE HAVE NO CONTROL OVER.
SO I THINK IT SPEAKS VOLUMES TO OUR STAFF AND TEACHERS THAT WE HEAR OVERWHELMINGLY POSITIVE RESPONSES ON HOW WELL THE DISTANCE LEARNING IS GOING.
GOOD AFTERNOON. AS I COME TO THE END OF MY APPOINTED BOARD MEMBER POSITION, I'M REALIZING THAT I MAY ONLY HAVE A COUPLE MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO SIT UP HERE AND HAVE A VOICE.
HOPEFULLY THE COMMUNITY VALUES MY ROLE HERE, BUT AS MY PAST HAS TAUGHT ME, NOTHING IS CERTAIN. IT FEELS LIKE WE'VE ACCEPTED THE SITUATION OF DISTANCE LEARNING.
NOW I KNOW WE ALL FEEL POWERLESS.
BUT WE ALL KNOW THAT THIS IS NOT THE EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE WE BELIEVED OUR CHILDREN WOULD BE RECEIVING. NOW, I HAVE TO SAY, THIS IS NO WAY AN ATTACK OF OUR TEACHERS.
IN FACT, MY SONS HAVE AMAZING TEACHERS AND I WATCH THEM CHANGE THEIR VOICES AND BE ANIMATED AND DO EVERYTHING THEY CAN.
BUT UNFORTUNATELY, WITH A SEVEN AND EIGHT YEAR OLD, IT'S STILL CHALLENGING AND SITTING OUR CHILDREN IN FRONT OF A COMPUTER FOR HOURS, EXPECTING THEM TO CONNECT AND LEARN AND THRIVE IS CHALLENGING.
AND I HEAR YOUR STRUGGLES BECAUSE I HEAR FROM A LOT OF PARENTS AND I FEEL THEM ALSO.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE AND YOUR KIDS ARE NOT ALONE IN THEIR CHALLENGES.
TO THE FAMILIES THAT HAVE REMOVED THEIR KIDS FROM THIS DISTRICT.
I ADMIRE YOUR STRENGTH, BRAVERY IN ACTION.
I PRAY THAT ONE DAY WE EARN YOUR CONFIDENCE TO HAVE YOUR KIDS BACK AT THESE SCHOOLS.
WE ARE ALMOST SEVEN MONTHS TO THE DAY OF OUR SCHOOLS CLOSING AND OUR KIDS AND PARENTS ARE SUFFERING. AS A DISTRICT WE ARE DOING OUR BEST WORKING HARD TO GET SPECIAL ED AND EL STUDENTS IN PERSON AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

THE FACT THAT WE ARE HELD HOSTAGE UNDER THE L.A.COUNTY GUIDELINES IS THE ULTIMATE CHALLENGE AT THIS POINT.
OUR CITIES ARE DIFFERENT AND SMALLER AND MORE MANAGEABLE.
I KNOW THAT SOME POLITICIANS ARE REQUESTING THAT GOVERNOR NEWSOM EMBRACE A COMMUNITY BASED OPENING STRATEGY THAT WOULD GIVE COMMUNITIES LIKE LA VERNE AND SAN DIMAS THE SAME FREEDOMS AS OTHER COUNTIES.
THERE IS NO SCIENTIFIC REASON WHY OUR STATE CANNOT ALLOW LOW RISK AREAS WITHIN COUNTIES TO REOPEN THEIR ECONOMIES AND RESTORE THE LIVELIHOODS OF THE RESIDENTS.
SO PLEASE PARENTS, CONTACT GOVERNOR NEWSOM EMAIL AND REQUEST THAT THIS STRATEGY FOR OPENING UP OUR COMMUNITY IS USED AND FAST SO WE CAN GET THESE SCHOOLS OPEN.

JORDAN WENT INTO HER JUNIOR YEAR AS THE JUNIOR CLASS PRESIDENT, ALONG WITH MAKING VARSITY FOR ALL THREE SPORTS TEAMS, ALL LEADING HER UP TO HER SENIOR YEAR.
SHE IS NOW THE ASB PRESIDENT, VARSITY CAPTAIN FOR SOCCER, AND WILL PLAY ALL THREE SPORTS IF POSSIBLE THIS YEAR.
JORDAN HOPES TO FURTHER EDUCATION AT ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY IN THE FALL, MAJORING IN SPORTS JOURNALISM.

I LIKE TO BEGIN BY SAYING THAT BONITA HIGH IS VERY EXCITED ABOUT THE EQUITY COMMITTEE THAT HAS BEEN PUT TOGETHER BY THE DISTRICT.
OUR REPRESENTATIVE THIS YEAR IS [INAUDIBLE].
THE EQUITY COMMITTEE AS A PARALLEL TO THE BONITA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, WHICH IS A STUDENT LED COMMITTEE THAT FOCUSES ON STUDENT CONCERNS AND IS MADE UP OF STUDENTS FROM MANY DIFFERENT AREAS SUCH AS ATHLETICS, CLUBS AND THE ARTS.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO THE WORK BOTH THESE GROUPS CAN ACHIEVE THIS YEAR.
IN ADDITION, NO YEAR WOULD BE COMPLETE WITHOUT SOME CROSSTOWN COMPETITION.
[INAUDIBLE] CAME TO US IN EARLY SEPTEMBER AND ASKED US ABOUT DOING A WEEK OF SOCIAL MEDIA CHALLENGES TO KEEP OUR INFAMOUS RIVALRY ALIVE.
ASU WAS EAGER TO HELP AND PUT IN A LOT OF EXTRA TIME AND EFFORT.
OUR MARKETING AND RALLY COMMITTEE HAD A COUPLE OF MEETINGS WITH HANNAH AND SOME OF THEIR ASB MEMBERS. THE ASB PRESIDENT FROM [INAUDIBLE] LAUREN AND I WENT ON INSTAGRAM TO INFORM OUR SCHOOLS OF THIS EXCITING EVENT WE WERE PUTTING ON.
THROUGHOUT THE WEEK WE HAD SEVERAL COMPETITIONS, SUCH AS WHO CAN GET THE MOST FOLLOWERS IN 24 HOURS, A FUNDRAISER AT CHICK-FIL-A THAT BROUGHT IN MONEY FOR BOTH SCHOOLS, SCAVENGER HUNT AROUND LA VERNE AND SAN DIMAS.
AND FINALLY, IT'S A TIC TOK DANCE COMPETITION BETWEEN BOTH ASBS.
BONITA DID TAKE HOME THIS [INAUDIBLE] SOCIAL TROPHY. AND WE HOPE THAT THIS NEW TRADITION WITH CARRY ON FOR YEARS TO COME.
FINALLY, WITH DISTANCE LEARNING COMES MANY NEW CHALLENGES.
BUT WE'RE DOING OUR BEST TO ROLL WITH THE PUNCHES.
I'VE EVEN STARTED DOING VIDEO ANNOUNCEMENTS.
THE STAFF AND TEACHERS AT BONITA HAVE BEEN VERY SUPPORTIVE AND HELPFUL THROUGH THIS BIG TRANSITION, ALTHOUGH THIS ISN'T HOW MY PEERS AND I WOULD HAVE EXPECTED TO BE SPENDING OUR SENIOR YEAR. WE'RE CONTINUING TO STAY INVOLVED THROUGH ASB SOCIAL MEDIA ACTION COMPETITIONS. WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING BACK TO SCHOOL WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT.

SENIORS HAD TO BEGIN THEIR SENIOR PROJECTS, INCLUDING RESEARCHING A REALISTIC PLAN FOR AFTER GRADUATION.
THIS INCLUDES EXPLORING A COLLEGE AND A REALISTIC CAREER PATH.
OUR PRESENTATION DAY IS ON DECEMBER 16TH.
OUR ARTS STUDENTS ARE COMPLETING AN ASSIGNMENT RELATED TO SAN DIMAS ROTARY ART CONTEST THEMED PEACE OUT OF CHAOS.
STUDENTS WILL PREPARE A GOOGLE SLIDE DECK OF IMAGES THEY FEEL DEPICT CONCEPTS OF PEACE AND CHAOS, ALONG WITH THE NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION.
STUDENTS WILL THEN MERGE THESE TWO IMAGES TO CREATE A PIECE OF ART USING ANY MEDIUM OF THEIR CHOICE. HOPEFULLY ONE OF OUR STUDENTS WILL WIN THE CASH PRIZE.
LIKE I SAID BEFORE, ON OCTOBER 7TH, WE HAVE OUR FIRST RENAISSANCE RALLY, WHICH INCLUDED AN [INAUDIBLE] SESSION, STUDENTS WERE SHOWN A PICTURE OF THE INSIDE OF A TEACHER'S DESK DRAWER, BASED ON WHAT THEY SAW.
THEY HAD TO GUESS WHO'S THE DESK WAS.

WE HAVE HAD TWO SPIRIT DAYS SO FAR ALSO, WE HAD A BLANKET DAY WHERE CLASSES TOOK THE PICTURE OF THEIR FAVORITE BLANKETS AND WE HAD AN ANNUAL DODGER DAY CELEBRATING THE FIRST DAY OF THE BASEBALL PLAYOFFS.
ALSO, TWO MEMBERS OF OUR BULLDOG COMMUNITY, [INAUDIBLE] MEMBER AND INSTRUCTIONAL AIDE [INAUDIBLE] AND SENIOR [INAUDIBLE] WILL BE SERVING ON THE DISTRICT EQUALITY COMMITTEE TO PROVIDE THE DISTRICT AND SCHOOLS WITH RECOMMENDATIONS TO ADDRESS PREJUDICE, DISCRIMINATION AND INEQUALITY.
NOW, EVEN THOUGH THINGS ARE OPENING UP THIS SCHOOL YEAR HAVE LOOKED VERY DIFFERENT.
THERE ARE A LOT OF GREAT LEARNING ACTIVITIES IN THE CLASSROOM AND VIRTUAL EVENTS BEING PLANNED UNTIL WE CAN RETURN TO CAMPUS.

SHE HAS ALSO BEEN PART OF THE TRACK TEAM SINCE HER FRESHMAN YEAR.
SHE LOVES SPORTS SO MUCH THAT SHE HAS VOLUNTEERED AT CHARTER OAK YOUTH LEAGUE IN COVINA FOR THE LAST THREE YEARS.
SHE LOVES HELPING YOUNG ATHLETES DEVELOP THEIR SKILLS IN THEIR SPORT.
SHE HAS WORKED AT ALL AT THREE PLACES.
HER FIRST JOB WAS ROCKIN' JUMP IN SAN DIMAS.
THEN SHE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE A DANCE TEACHER IN SAN DIMAS.
SHE GETS TO TEACH YOUNG GIRLS THE BASICS OF BALLET.
AND RECENTLY SHE GOT A JOB AT RAISING CANE'S IN GLENDORA EXCLAMATION MARK.
SHE'S EXCITED TO BE A PART OF THE BONITA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT'S BOARD.

RECENTLY OUR ASB HOSTED OUR ANNUAL CLUB RUSH STUDENTS CAN JOIN CLUBS VIRTUALLY.

WE ALSO JUST HAD A CHILDREN'S BOOK DRIVE AND THE SOPHOMORE CLASS WON.
WE DONATED ALL THE BOOKS TO THE [INAUDIBLE] FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY ORGANIZATION.
WE'RE ALSO KEEPING OUR STUDENTS BUSY HOSTING WEEKLY EVENTS SUCH AS NEIGHBORHOOD SAINT, WHERE WE HID SAINTS GEAR AND A GIFT CARD SOMEWHERE IN THE COMMUNITY OF SAN DIMAS, AND THEY HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO OUT AND FIND IT.

THOSE KIDS ARE GOING ONTO THEIR ZOOM CLASSES.
AND SO ATTENDANCE IS UP FOR BONITA UNIFIED.
BUT I DIDN'T WANT TO JUST SIMPLY LEAVE IT AT THAT BECAUSE A GROWTH AREA FOR US IS ALTHOUGH ATTENDANCE IS UP, IT DOESN'T NECESSARILY TRANSLATE TO FULL ENGAGEMENT.
AND SO, YOU KNOW, CRYSTAL, YOU MENTIONED ENGAGEMENT, THE ABILITY TO FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME KEEP STUDENTS ENGAGED.

BUT, YOU KNOW, THEY DO HAVE MORE TIME AND THE TEACHERS ARE NOT NECESSARILY WITH THEM LATE INTO THE AFTERNOON. AND SO WE'VE GOT TO WE'VE GOT TO INCREASE WORK COMPLETED AT ALL LEVELS AND IN PARTICULAR AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL.

OUR ELEMENTARY MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT SPECIALISTS ARE GOING INTO CLASSROOMS DOING SOME SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LESSONS, WHOLE GROUP, WHICH IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE WHEN YOU HIRE INDIVIDUALS LIKE THIS, INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING IS A GREAT GROUP.

AND MY DAUGHTER ACTUALLY GOES TO SOME OF THOSE.

WE ARE PARENT REPRESENTATIVES TO BONITA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT AND PARENTS OF STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS, THE ESGV [INAUDIBLE], CAC COMMUNITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE.
WE'D LIKE TO UPDATE THE BONITA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD, EDUCATORS AND PARENTS ON A FEW ACTIVITIES WE HAVE PLANNED FOR THE FALL.
THE CAC WILL BE HAVING A VIRTUAL FAMILY AUTUMN BINGO NIGHT ON THURSDAY, OCTOBER 29TH, FROM 6:15 TO 7:15.
IN LIEU OF OUR ANNUAL ARTS FESTIVAL, WE WILL BE HOSTING A PARENT IN SERVICE ABOUT DISTANCE LEARNING AND THE INDIVIDUAL EDUCATION PLAN ON THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 10TH, FROM 6 P.M. TO 7:30 PM FOR FAMILIES AND EDUCATORS, YOU ARE ABLE TO REGISTER FOR BOTH BY EMAILING US AT CACSELPA@GMAIL.COM.
