THEY FACED INNUMERABLE CHALLENGES LIKE ALL OF US.
BUT, SUSAN, I JUST WANT TO LET YOU KNOW, THEY VERY MUCH APPRECIATE ALL THE COOPERATION AND SPEED WITH THE PAYMENT THAT YOU WORK OUT WITH THEM.
AND, YOU KNOW, IT WAS FRIDAY THE 13TH WHEN ALL THIS HIT.

AND THAT EDUCATION WAS THE WAY I WORKED HARD IN HIGH SCHOOL.
I GREW UP IN THE SAN GABRIEL VALLEY AND CONTINUED ON TO COLLEGE AND FROM THERE WENT TO GRADUATE SCHOOL AND IT TOTALLY DIDN'T.
IT REALLY STRUCK ME AT THE MOMENT WHEN I WAS AT MY GRADUATIONS COMMENCEMENT.
ONE OF THE ACTIVITIES AT HARVARD UNIVERSITY AND SITTING THERE WITH WAS IN THIS BEAUTIFUL YARD AND IT HAS THE TREES ARE BLOWING IN.
THE WIND WAS BLOWING AND THE CHOIR WAS SINGING AN ALLELUIA SONG AND IT HIT ME HOW MUCH HAD CHANGED IN ONE GENERATION FOR OUR FAMILY.
AND THAT THAT WAS THROUGH EDUCATION AND THE POWER OF EDUCATION TO BE TRANSFORMATIVE.
SO TAKING THAT FROM THERE, I NATURALLY MY FIRST JOBS WERE IN EDUCATION.
THAT WAS THE MOST NATURAL WAY TO GO FOR ME.
SO I WORKED AT SANTIAGO CANYON COLLEGE IN COMMUNICATIONS AND THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE SYSTEM DOES SUCH GREAT WORK FOR ITS STUDENTS.
AND THEN FROM THERE, I WENT TO SAN DIEGO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT AND WORKED IN THE PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICE. SO IT WAS MY HONOR TO COMMUNICATE THE STORIES OF THE STUDENTS, AS WELL AS MAKING BUSINESS AND BUSINESS PARTNERSHIPS AND PARTNERSHIPS WITH UNIVERSITIES TO HELP THE STUDENTS. AND THEN WE ALSO WOULD DO SPECIAL EVENT PLANNING AT OUR OFFICE.

I LOVED WORKING, BUT THEN I THINK EVERYONE GETS TO A MOMENT WHEN THEY START GROWING THEIR FAMILY. AND I DECIDED MY HUSBAND AND I DECIDED THAT I WOULD STAY HOME.

AND THROUGHOUT THEIR EDUCATION, IT'S BEEN IMPORTANT TO ME TO GIVE BACK AND TO AND TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE COMMUNITIES IN WHICH WE'RE APART, WHETHER THAT'S OUR COMMUNITY OR CITIES THAT WE LIVE IN OR IF THAT IS THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY THAT THAT THEY'RE A PART OF.

AND I THINK IT'S TELLING THAT I USE THE WORD WE BECAUSE AS A PARENT, I HAVE FELT LIKE A VESTED MEMBER OF THIS FAMILY, OF THIS BONITA FAMILY, REALLY.
I BELIEVE IN THE VISION AND THE PURPOSE AND THE CORE VALUES AND THE MISSION STATEMENT THAT I THINK, THANKS TO ALL OF YOU HAVE BEEN ADOPTED AND THE WORK OF MR. COLES, YOU HAVE DONE AN EXCELLENT JOB IN LAYING IT ALL OUT THERE.
AND THEY ARE SO SPOT ON TARGET.

AND THEN HAVING PASSED, TRUSTING THAT THE STAFF IS GOING TO TAKE IT FROM THERE.
AND THE TEACHERS REALLY DO A GREAT JOB WITH THE INTERVENTION PROGRAM AT RAMONA MIDDLE SCHOOL. SO FOR ALL THESE REASONS, I BELIEVE IN THE PUBLIC.

AND YOU DO YOU HAND YOUR CHILD OVER TO THE SCHOOL SYSTEM AND YOU ARE TRUSTING THE SCHOOL SYSTEM THAT THEY ARE GOING TO ACCEPT THEM AND TAKE CARE OF THEM AND HAVE A SAFE ENVIRONMENT AND GUIDE HER AND ENCOURAGE HER AND MOTIVATE HER TO HONOR THAT PUBLIC TRUST IS A PRIORITY OF MINE.

AND THEY HAVE BEEN SO RESILIENT RIGHT NOW AND THE TEACHERS HAVE BEEN SO RESILIENT.
AND WE HAD OUR OLDEST ONE OF OUR DAUGHTERS IS ON THE DANCE TEAM AT BONITA.
AND SO THEY DROVE BY THEIR THEIR AWARDS SINCE WE DIDN'T WEREN'T ABLE TO HAVE THE BANQUET.
WE WERE ABLE TO YOU KNOW, WE JOINED BY ANOTHER HOUSE FOR THE WATERPOLO BANQUET AWARDS.
EVERYONE IS BEING SO CREATIVE OF HOW TO CONNECT WITH ONE ANOTHER.

WHEN WE GOT HERE, WE LEARNED BONITA WAS GREAT BY ITS PARENTS, BY ITS BY THE PEOPLE.
AND THE MOMENT WE STEPPED ONTO THE CAMPUSES IN OUR CASE, LA VERNE HEIGHTS AND RAMONA, WE WERE WELCOMED.
AT RAMONA, THE COUNCILOR TOOK US ON A TOUR.

I START TAKING SOME MORE CLASSES IN PSYCHOLOGY.
I JUST DECIDED CHANGE MY MAJOR AND THIS IS WHAT I'M PASSIONATE ABOUT.
DURING THAT TIME, I WORKED AS A THERAPIST, THEY CALL THE INTERN THERAPIST AT UCLA FOR A.B.A. FOR STUDENTS WITH AUTISM.
SO I WAS ABLE TO LEARN FROM THE BEST PEOPLE, TRY TO MAKE MY OWN CURRICULUM AND DESIGN SOMETHING FOR MY COUSINS IN NEW YORK TO SET UP PROGRAMS THERE.
I WENT ON TO GRAD SCHOOL AT CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE IN EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY AND SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGY. GOT MY MFT HOURS THERE.
I WANTED INITIALLY TO OPEN UP MY OWN AUTISM CLINIC BECAUSE I WAS WORKING PART TIME FOR ONE. BUT THEN I.
I APPLIED INITIALLY FOR THE MFT, BUT THEY SAID ACTUALLY WE HAVE THIS SCHOOL PSYCH/MFT PROGRAM. WE WOULD LOVE YOU TO BE PART OF OUR PILOT PROGRAM FOR SIX PEOPLE.
I HAD NO IDEA WHAT A PSYCHOLOGIST WAS BACK THEN, WHICH I GUESS IS A GOOD THING AS A STUDENT. BUT THEN AFTER THAT, I FELL IN LOVE, FELL IN LOVE WITH IT.
SO I STARTED DOING THAT. I WORKED AS A ON A CLASSIFIED SIDE AND INSTRUCTIONAL AIDE FOR STUDENTS WITH AUTISM IN THE CLASSROOM.
I BECAME A SUBSTITUTE TEACHER TO PAY MY WAY THROUGH COLLEGE AND GRAD SCHOOL.

MY VISION WOULD BE I MEAN, FIRST OBVIOUSLY THE FIRST SIX MONTHS, I'M GOING TO BE LEARNING AND LISTENING ON THAT. I GOT TO LEARN FROM YOU GUYS HOW IT IS TO BE ON THAT SIDE OF THE TABLE, BECAUSE WHEN I WATCH BOARD MEETINGS, IT'S USUALLY FROM MY COMPUTER AT HOME, BUT FOR THEIR MENTAL HEALTH. I RAN CAMPAIGNS FOR LIKE STATE WIDE ASSOCIATIONS WHERE I WORK ON THE STATE COUNCIL OF EDUCATION FOR STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES.
I AM PASSIONATE ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH BECAUSE IF, LIKE I SAID BEFORE, WHEN STUDENTS FEEL SAFE, JUST LIKE THE SECOND, I'LL KEEP GOING.
WE'RE GOING TO DO THINGS BEYOND WHAT WE CAN SEE.
IF KIDS FEEL SAFE, THEY'LL LEARN BEST.

BUT THE REASON I DIDN'T MOVE HERE WAS BECAUSE YOU GUYS ARE SUCH A HIGH ACHIEVING DISTRICT. MY GOAL IS TO CONTINUE THAT SUCCESS.
I KNOW I'M A PSYCHOLOGIST, SO I LOOK AT THE DATA AND MY DATA DRIVES MY DECISIONS.
SO IF WHAT WE'RE DOING IS WORKING, I SUPPORT THAT.
AND I WANT TO ENABLE THE DISTRICT TO CONTINUE DOING WHAT THEY'RE DOING WITH THAT.
THAT'S PRIORITIES. AND MY VISIONS.
WELL, THAT'S IS WHY I CAME TO THIS DISTRICT.

I KNOW MOST OF THAT STUFF COMES FROM THE COUNTY AND STATE AND IT'S REALLY BEING FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE ON HOW WE IMPLEMENT THOSE IS GOING TO BE A CONCERN.
I HAVEN'T HAD CONCERNS FROM THE BOARD IN THE PAST AND I JUST HOPE TO BE PART OF A TEAM THAT CONTINUES THE SUCCESS.
WHAT STRENGTHS WOULD YOU BRING AS A MEMBER OF THE GOVERNING BOARD? I BELIEVE ON A DIFFERENT LENS.
I KNOW WE'VE GOT A FIREFIGHTER, WE GOT A TEACHER VIEW.

THEY IMPACT MY FAMILY NOT TO MAKE SURE THAT WHAT I CAN OFFER TO THE BOARD AND WHAT I OFFER TO OUR COMMUNITY AND STUDENTS IS IN LINE WITH THAT.
IT HAS TO BE WORTH THEIR SACRIFICE.

YOU'RE NOT GOING TO BE INVOLVED IN ALL THE DIFFERENT THINGS THAT YOU'RE DOING RIGHT NOW.
AND WHEN YOU WALK ON CAMPUSES TO OPEN HOUSE BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHTS, WHATEVER IT IS YOU'RE LOOKED AT, DIFFERENT. YOU CAN'T JUST POP IN AND WORK AND BE THE VOLUNTEER.
I KNOW I TRIED THAT FOR THE FIRST COUPLE OF YEARS AND IT JUST FINALLY GOT TO THE POINT OF ITS. AND I KNOW WHEN WE APPOINTED MATT.
HE WAS A BECAME PRESIDENT AND HE HAS HAD TO GIVE UP THAT JOB TO BECOME THE BOARD MEMBER.
AND I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE REST OF YOU, BUT WHEN YOU COME OVER ON THIS SIDE, YOU GIVE UP A LOT OF WHAT YOU'RE PASSIONATE ABOUT.
IT TAKES A DIFFERENT FORM OF GETTING THAT PASSION.
BUT OTHER THAN BEING A CLASSROOM VOLUNTEER AND HELPING IN THE KIDS CLASS, YOU'RE NOT THERE FOR A LOT OF THE OTHER STUFF BECAUSE YOU YOU CAN'T BE THAT PTA PRESIDENT OR VICE PRESIDENT. SO SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT WHEN YOU MAKE THAT COMMITMENT.
BUT YOU GUYS MADE IT TOUGH, MADE IT REALLY TOUGH.

I HAVE JUST TAKEN MYSELF HOW TO DO THAT.
AND THE REASON WHY THEY'RE DOING AN AMAZING JOB, LIKE I HAVE NO REASON TO EVER COMPLAIN BECAUSE MY KIDS FROM KINDERGARTEN BEFORE I RAN TO NOW HAVE ALWAYS CONSISTENTLY GOTTEN A GREAT EDUCATION. BUT IF SOMETHING HAPPENS WHERE A TEACHER OR SOMEONE OR IF THEY'RE GETTING BULLIED OR ALL THESE THINGS HAPPEN, I HAVE CHOSEN BECAUSE I'M ON THIS POSITION TO JUST DEAL WITH IT.
