OUR PICKLEBALL TOURNAMENT CONTINUES AND WILL WRAP UP NEXT WEEK.

COMING UP, THE SOPHOMORE CLASS COUNCIL WILL BE PUTTING UP ANITA'S FIRST EVER MORP.

MORP IS PROM, BUT SPELLED BACKWARDS. IT'S A CASUAL DANCE WHERE STUDENTS GO TO HANG OUT WITH THEIR FRIENDS, AND THEIR TICKET INCLUDES AN IN-N-OUT BURGER AND A SCOOP OF HANDEL'S ICE CREAM FOR ONLY $10.

IN ATHLETICS, OUR WINTER SPORTS ARE WRAPPING UP AND ARE HEADED INTO PLAYOFFS.

ON MONDAY OF THIS WEEK, ALL LEVELS OF BASKETBALL PLAYED AGAINST AYALA, AND TOMORROW THE GIRLS WATER POLO TEAM WILL PLAY IN THE FIRST ROUND OF CIF.

ADDITIONALLY, THE BOYS BASKETBALL AND GIRLS WATER POLO TEAMS SECURED THE PALOMARES LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP, HIGHLIGHTING THEIR HARD WORK, DEDICATION AND SUCCESS THIS SEASON.

IN THE ARTS, OUR THEATER DEPARTMENT IS HAVING A DANCE WORKSHOP THIS SUNDAY TO HELP ANY STUDENTS ON CAMPUS GROW THEIR DANCING SKILLS WHILE HAVING FUN WITH THEIR FRIENDS.

ALONGSIDE THIS, THEATER IS ALSO GETTING READY TO PUT ON THE SPRING PLAY INTO THE WOODS.

OUR CULINARY PROGRAMS SOLD SPECIALTY DRINKS YESTERDAY CALLED BEARCAT BEVS, WHICH INCLUDED THIS WEEK'S SPECIAL A STRAWBERRY MATCHA.

IN ACADEMICS, WE RECOGNIZED OUR HONOR ROLL STUDENTS WHO EARNED A GPA OF 3.5 OR HIGHER.

DURING THE FIRST SEMESTER, THESE STUDENTS WERE CELEBRATED WITH A CERTIFICATE, A STICKER, AND A CUPCAKE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THEIR COMMITMENT TO ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE.

BONITA ALSO HOSTED OUR ANNUAL ELECTIVES RUSH, GIVING STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPLORE COURSES THEY MAY CHOOSE TO ENROLL IN NEXT YEAR.

AND MR. MCCORMICK TAUGHT THEM HOW TO PLAY BLACKJACK SO HE CAN PLAY FOR FUN.

OUR STUDENT WORLD. OUR SCHOOL WIDE STUDENT OF THE MONTH WAS JARED GARCIA, AND OUR STAFF MEMBER OF THE MONTH WAS MS. TIFFANY ALVAREZ. LAST MONTH, STUDENTS HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO STEP OUTSIDE CLASSROOM INTO A REAL WORLD LEARNING WITH BEHIND THE SCENES TOUR OF THE VAN NUYS AIRPORT, WHERE THE STUDENTS EXPLORED CAREER PATHWAYS IN FIRE AND POWER.

THIS ENGAGING EXPERIENCE WAS MADE POSSIBLE THANKS TO THE CONTINUED EFFORTS OF VANESSA TELFORD.

LOOKING AHEAD. COLLEGE AND CAREER MOMENTUM CONTINUES TO BUILD AS BOTH CITRUS COLLEGE AND MT.

SAC WILL BE ON CAMPUS THIS MONTH TO HOLD ORIENTATION WORKSHOPS SUPPORTING STUDENTS AS THEY TAKE MEANINGFUL STEPS FORWARD THEIR SECONDARY.

POST-SECONDARY GOALS. ADDITIONALLY, ON FEBRUARY 27TH, CITRUS AUTOMOTIVE WILL VISIT CAMPUS TO HOST AN INTERACTIVE HANDS ON WORKSHOP INTRODUCING STUDENTS TO A WORLD OF AUTOMOTIVE CAREERS IN ART CLASS, WE ARE WORKING ON COLOR PENCIL TIRE DESIGNS, WHERE STUDENTS ARE MASTERING PEN COLOR PENCILS AND CREATING DESIGNS THAT EXPLORE SYMMETRY.

RENAISSANCE IS BUSY PLANNING OUR PROM, WHICH IS ON APRIL 25TH AT THE SAN DIMAS MASONIC CENTER.

THIS YEAR'S THEME WILL BE VIVA LAS BULLDOGS! ON JANUARY 16TH, WE HELD OUR ANNUAL SOUP DAY WHERE WE PROVIDE SOUP FOR THE ENTIRE SCHOOL.

OUR SOCCER SEASON IS GOING STRONG. OUR THIRD GAME IS FEBRUARY 13TH AGAINST WHITCOMB.

THE BRACKETS FOR THIS YEAR'S CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT ARE BEGINNING TO FILL UP.

WE WILL BE GETTING STARTED WITHIN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS. THANK YOU.

OUR AVID PARA PRACTICE TEACHER SHOUT OUT FOR JANUARY GOES TO MR. DISTASO. HIS LESSON ON HUMAN BODY MANNEQUINS STOOD OUT FOR BEING EXTREMELY HANDS ON AND ENGAGING WITH WICKER SPOTLIGHT ON INQUIRY AND COLLABORATION.

STUDENTS REALLY LOVE HOW INTERACTIVE HIS LESSONS ARE, FROM WHITEBOARD RACES THAT CREATE FRIENDLY COMPETITION TO MODELING CONCEPTS INSTEAD OF JUST EXPLAINING THEM. MR. DISTASO ALSO MAKES LEARNING ACTIVE AND FUN.

IN ADDITION, SAN DIMAS HIGH SCHOOL HAS BEEN SELECTED TO REPRESENT SCHOOLS ACROSS THE COUNTRY IN THE NATIONAL ASSESSMENT OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRESS.

ON FEBRUARY 25TH 49 RANDOMLY SELECTED SENIORS WILL EITHER TAKE A MATH OR READING ASSESSMENT.

THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR SCHOOL TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE NATIONAL PICTURE OF STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT. MOVING ON TO ATHLETICS.

SHOUT OUT TO ALL OF OUR WINTER SPORTS AS THEIR SEASON WRAPS UP THIS WEEK, WITH THE SPRING SEASON OFFICIALLY STARTING NEXT WEEK. WE WANT TO WISH GOOD LUCK TO GIRLS WATER POLO AND GIRLS BASKETBALL AS THEY HEAD INTO CIF PLAYOFFS.

WE ALSO WANT TO CONGRATULATE TWO JUNIOR THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE ACHIEVEMENT AND WE'RE PROUD TO CELEBRATE THEIR HARD WORK AND DEDICATION. ADDITIONALLY, THE SCSH COMMUNITY IS MOURNING THE LOSS OF ED WOLF, WHO PASSED AWAY ON JANUARY 23RD, 2026.

HIS MEMORIAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD ON FEBRUARY 23RD, 2026 AT THE CHURCH IN SAN DIMAS.

NOW ON TO THE ARTS. A HUGE SHOUTOUT TO MS. KOCALIS AND HER ENTIRE PRODUCTION TEAM FOR THEIR HARD WORK ON CINDERELLA.

THE SHOW WAS A MAJOR SUCCESS, AND WE WANT TO THANK EVERYONE WHO CAME OUT TO SUPPORT AND CELEBRATE THE PERFORMING ARTS AT SCSH. AND FINALLY, ACTIVITIES THROUGHOUT THIS MONTH. TO PRESENT THESE AWARDS ARE STEVE SCOTT AND MIKE WALLACE.

BUT ALSO, AS MENTIONED, THERE IS IN THE AUDIENCE A VERY LARGE SUPPORTING CAST OF ROTARIANS.

ROTARY CLUB HAS BEEN AROUND FOR A LONG TIME IN THIS CITY, AND WE DO SOME PRETTY AMAZING THINGS, INCLUDING OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS, GIVING SEVERAL TONS OF FOOD TO LOCAL MILITARY BASES, SENDING STUDENTS FROM BUSD TO CAMP TO LEADERSHIP CAMP AT BOTH THE JUNIOR HIGH AND THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL.

WE'VE ALSO, OVER THE LAST SEVERAL DECADES, VACCINATED 250 PLUS THOUSAND RESIDENTS OF THE WORLD AGAINST POLIO.

BUT THE CORE OF OUR CLUB HAS ALWAYS BEEN EDUCATION.

AND WE WERE TRYING TO DO THE MATH TODAY. AND WE KNOW OVER THE LAST DECADE PLUS OR TWO DECADES, WE'VE GIVEN OUT OVER $100,000 WORTH OF GRANTS TO LOCAL TEACHERS.

MIKE AND I BOTH HAPPEN TO BE MARRIED TO TEACHERS.

AND SO NOT ONLY DO WE APPRECIATE WHAT YOU DO AS, AS INSTRUCTORS AND WHAT YOU DO FOR KIDS, WE ALSO KNOW HOW HARD YOU WORK. WE ALSO KNOW HOW OFTEN YOU HAVE TO COME OUT OF YOUR OWN POCKET TO PAY FOR STUFF.

EVEN IN A GREAT DISTRICT LIKE BUSD, THAT'S JUST PART OF BEING A TEACHER.

I WANT TO GIVE A LITTLE THANKS TO MY FRIENDS IN FISCAL WHO HELP US ALL YEAR LONG SPENDING OUR LCAP DOLLARS AND MAKING SURE THAT WE'RE COMPLIANT WITH THEM. WHAT YOU SEE HERE IS THE ADOPTED BUDGET, WHICH IS PART OF WHAT I, THE BUDGET OVERVIEW FOR PARENTS THAT I SHOW YOU IN JUNE.

AND THAT'S SORT OF LIKE THE TWO POTS OF MONEY YOU'LL SEE THERE, WHICH IS THE LCFF EXPENDITURES AND THEN THE SUPPLEMENTAL EXPENDITURES.

AND, YOU SEE, WE'VE DONE A GOOD JOB OF SPENDING DOWN OUR LCAP MONEY FOR THIS SCHOOL YEAR.

THE SUPPLEMENTAL FUNDS ARE SPENT ON THINGS LIKE OUR INTERVENTION TEACHERS, BIAS, SLPS PEOPLE SOME OF OUR FOSTER AND HOMELESS LIAISONS AND OUR MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT SPECIALISTS.

LITTLE SNAPSHOT OF WHERE SOME OF THOSE FUNDS GO.

YOU MAY REMEMBER WE WENT WHEN THEY CHANGED THE LCAP FORMAT.

WE WENT FROM SIX GOALS TO FOUR AND THIS IS OUR FIRST GOAL.

THIS IS OUR BROAD GOAL AROUND ACADEMICS AND STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT.

THIS GOALS PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO SOME OF OUR GROUPS OF STUDENTS LIKE OUR ENGLISH LEARNERS, STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES OUR STUDENTS WHO ARE SOCIOECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED FOSTER YOUTH AND OUR HOMELESS STUDENTS.

HERE'S SOME METRICS AROUND GOAL 1. IF YOU'LL REMEMBER, THE KEY INSIGHTS FOR EACH OF THE GOALS ARE SET UP FOR YOU TO SEE A BASELINE THAT'S USING VARIOUS BASELINE DATA FROM THE. IT'S SPECIFIC TO EACH METRIC, BUT MOSTLY FROM THE 2023-24 SCHOOL YEAR.

AND THEN THE DIFFERENCE FROM THE BASELINE TO YEAR ONE AND THEN THE DIFFERENCE FROM THE BASELINE TO YEAR TWO, WHICH IS WHAT I'LL BE SHARING WITH YOU THIS EVENING.

SO THE FIRST TWO LINES ARE CAASPP ELA AND OUR CAASPP MATH.

I GET TO TELL YOU THAT ONCE AGAIN, WE CAN SHOW THAT WE'VE SUCCESSFULLY MITIGATED LEARNING LOSS FROM THE PANDEMIC.

THE DATA FROM YEAR TWO COMES FROM OUR JUNE CAASPP SCORES.

AND ONCE AGAIN, THEY ARE AN ALL TIME DISTRICT HIGH FOR BOTH ELA AND MATH.

I WANT TO POINT OUT THE MATH IN PARTICULAR, BECAUSE THIS YEAR WE DID A K-5 MATH ADOPTION.

AND IF YOU KNOW CHANGE THEORY, YOU KNOW THAT ANY TIME YOU START SOMETHING NEW, YOU'RE GOING TO SEE AN IMPLEMENTATION DIP.

AND WE DID EXPECT TO SEE A LITTLE BIT OF A DIP.

WELL MY COMPLIMENT TO JAMIE ABISHAN TO DEB BROWNLEE, WHO WAS WORKING IN THE ROLE OF A MATH, AN ELEMENTARY MATH AT THAT TIME. OUR ELEMENTARY MATH OR ELEMENTARY TEACHERS ARE ELEMENTARY MATH INTERVENTIONISTS FOR NOT ONLY ADOPTING A NEW CURRICULUM BUT CONTINUING TO IMPROVE THEIR LCAP SCORES IN MATH.

SO SPECIAL COMPLIMENT TO THEM. LOTS OF BRIGHT SPOTS AGAIN IN ELA.

WE CONTINUE TO RECLASSIFY STUDENTS AT A HIGH RATE, AND I'M GOING TO SHOW YOU A LITTLE BIT IN OUR NEXT SLIDE ABOUT THEIR SUCCESS RATE ON OTHER METRICS. AND SO WE HAVE A CONTINUED NUMBER OF NEWCOMER ELS.

WE'RE SEEING A TREND IN THAT. AND SO I'M REALLY PROUD OF THE RECLASSIFICATION RATE.

AND THIS IS SPECIFIC TO MUNICIPAL BONDS. YOU CAN SEE IN APRIL 2025 INTEREST RATES SPIKED FOLLOWING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF TARIFFS ON FOREIGN COUNTRIES. FOLLOWING THAT PERIOD, THE FED DID GO AND CUT RATES THREE TIMES AT THE END OF THE CALENDAR YEAR 2025, AND YOU CAN SEE WHERE WE ARE TODAY IS ABOUT ONE PERCENTAGE POINT LOWER THAN WHERE WE WERE IN THE HIGHS OF 2025.

SO THE LOWER THE INTEREST RATE ENVIRONMENT, THE GREATER THE OPPORTUNITY TO LOCK IN LOWER RATES.

SO WE'RE LOOKING AT THREE PRIOR DISTRICT ISSUANCES, REFUNDING BONDS THAT WERE ISSUED IN 2014 AND TWO SERIES THAT WERE ISSUED IN 2016.

THE BEST ANALOGY FOR A REFUNDING BOND IS SIMILAR TO A MORTGAGE REFINANCING, WHERE WE PAY OFF HIGHER RATE DEBT WITH LOWER RATE DEBT.

THE ONE DIFFERENCE THE PRIMARY DIFFERENCE WITH A BOND REFINANCING IS WE CANNOT EXTEND THE ORIGINAL REPAYMENT TERM.

SO ALL OF THE SAVINGS ACHIEVED ARE A FUNCTION OF LOWER INTEREST RATES.

THE BONDS ARE SOLD ON A TAX EXEMPT BASIS AND THE COSTS ARE PAID OUT OF REFUNDING BOND PROCEEDS.

SO THERE'S A LOT OF NUMBERS HERE, BUT WE'LL LOOK AT JUST THE BOTTOM NUMBER.

THE ESTIMATED SAVINGS IS ABOUT $1.3 MILLION. AND APOLOGIES FOR SOME OF THE FORMATTING THERE.

THE ANNUAL SAVINGS OR THE REDUCTION FOR TAXPAYERS IS ABOUT $150,000 PER YEAR.

SO WHAT YOU CAN SEE ON THAT TABLE TO THE LEFT IS THE ORIGINAL BONDS HAVE A FINAL PAYMENT IN 2035.

THE NEW BONDS HAVE A FINAL PAYMENT IN 2035. HIGHLIGHTED IN YELLOW, THE REDUCTION IN THE INTEREST RATE IS ABOUT 0.6%.

AND THE DISTRICT HAS A FAIRLY GOOD TRACK RECORD.

SO FIVE REFINANCING IS GOING BACK TO 2012 WHERE YOU SAVED 3 MILLION, 3 MILLION, 3 MILLION, 5 MILLION, IN TOTAL, $18.8 MILLION OF SAVINGS.

AND WHAT WE'RE CURRENTLY ESTIMATING FOR THIS ONE IS 1.3 MILLION.

SO IT WOULD BE NICE TO BE ABLE TO GET A NICE ROUND NUMBER OVER $20 MILLION.

AND THAT REALLY DOES SHOW YOUR TAXPAYERS THAT YOU ARE BEING GOOD STEWARDS OF THEIR DOLLARS AND LOWERING THE COSTS WHENEVER POSSIBLE.

SO IF APPROVED THIS EVENING, THE RESOLUTION WOULD AUTHORIZE THE DISTRICT TO ISSUE REFUNDING BONDS TO REFINANCE THOSE WAS 2014 AND 2016 WERE FUNDING BONDS THAT CHET DESCRIBED FOR TAXPAYER SAVINGS, 100% OF THE BENEFIT OF THE REFUNDING GOES TO THE THE BENEFIT OF THE TAXPAYERS.

IT'S THE ONLY GOVERNMENTAL ACTION THAT'S REQUIRED BY THE BOARD IN CONNECTION WITH THE ISSUANCE OF THE REFUNDING BONDS. AND THE RESOLUTION SPECIFIES THE BASIC TERMS AND PARAMETERS AND FORMS THE BONDS, AND PROVIDES A NOT TO EXCEED PRINCIPAL AMOUNT OF $45 MILLION, AND AUTHORIZES THE BONDS TO BE SOLD AT A NEGOTIATED SALE, AS WELL AS AUTHORIZES THE DISTRICT STAFF TO DO ANY AND ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO COMPLETE THE FINANCING. IT ALSO APPROVES THE CENTRAL FINANCING DOCUMENTS, WHICH ARE ALSO LISTED ON THIS SLIDE.

SO THE PRELIMINARY OFFICIAL STATEMENT IS THE OFFERING DOCUMENT, AND IT'S THE MEANS BY WHICH THE DISTRICT COMMUNICATES WITH THE INVESTING COMMUNITY.

AND INVESTORS WILL MAKE THEIR INVESTMENT DECISION WHETHER TO BUY YOUR BONDS AND AT WHAT PRICE BASED ON THE CONTENTS OF THAT DOCUMENT.

SO RECENTLY, THE DISTRICT DID DO A SURVEY WITH THE COMMUNITY TO SEE WHETHER OR NOT THEY WOULD BE SUPPORTIVE OF A POTENTIAL BOND MEASURE. AND WE DID SEE POSITIVE RESULTS. IN ORDER FOR A GO BOND TO BE SUCCESSFUL, YOU CAN SEE AT THE BOTTOM THERE IT REQUIRES 55% SUPPORT OF THE COMMUNITY. OUR QUESTION DID ASK PEOPLE ABOUT A $59 PER $100,000 OF ASSESSED VALUATION BOND, WHICH WOULD RAISE ABOUT $256 MILLION.

THE HIGHEST PRIORITIES THAT THE COMMUNITY SAID THEY WOULD BE WILLING TO SUPPORT MATCH THOSE SAME PRIORITIES THAT THE DISTRICT HAS BEEN COMMUNICATING ABOUT. THIS SHOWS THAT THERE IS VERY GOOD ALIGNMENT WITH THE VALUES OF THE THINGS THAT THE DISTRICT HAS BEEN THINKING OF DOING, AND THE THINGS THAT THE PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY ALSO AGREE TO SUPPORT.

YOU CAN SEE IN HERE, YOU KNOW, REMOVING HAZARDOUS MATERIALS, HELPING PREPARE STUDENTS FOR SKILLED TRADES, UPGRADING FIRE ALARMS, LEAKY ROOFS, FIRE SAFETY SYSTEMS, GAS AND SEWER LINES OUTDATED ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS AND 40 YEAR OLD AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEMS, WHICH ARE ACTUALLY OLDER.

OH. SO AGAIN, VERY GOOD ALIGNMENT WITH THE THINGS THAT THE DISTRICT WOULD LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH.

ON THE INITIAL VOTE, WHEN PEOPLE HEARD ALMOST NO INFORMATION, THEY WERE JUST READ A 75 WORD BALLOT QUESTION WITH ALL THE LEGALESE THAT IS REQUIRED, THEY HAD NO OTHER INFORMATION ABOUT THE TYPES OF THINGS THAT THE DISTRICT WOULD BE DOING.

WE HAD INITIAL SUPPORT AT 57%, SO ABOVE THE 55% SUPPORT THAT WAS NEEDED.

PARTICIPANTS WERE THEN GIVEN MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE TYPES OF PROJECTS THAT THE DISTRICT WOULD BE DOING.

THEY WERE TOLD MORE INFORMATION ABOUT HOW THERE WERE ACCOUNTABILITY PROVISIONS.

ALL OF THOSE THAT WILL BE GONE OVER HERE AND YOU CAN SEE THAT SUPPORT AFTER THAT EDUCATION WAS RECEIVED, WENT UP TO 61%. SO WE DO THINK THAT THIS JUNE IS A GOOD ENVIRONMENT FOR THE DISTRICT TO MOVE FORWARD.

THERE WAS A LOOK AT RESULTS COMPARING JUNE TO NOVEMBER, AND WE HONESTLY SAW NO DIFFERENCE IN THE RESULTS.

SO IT WOULD NOT MATTER IF THE DISTRICT WENT IN JUNE OR NOVEMBER.

THE RESULTS AND THE NUMBERS WERE THE SAME. SO A QUICK OVERVIEW OF SOME OF THE MATERIALS AND OUTREACH THAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING BEHIND THE SCENES OVER THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS. I WANT TO SAY IT'S PROBABLY BEEN A LITTLE OVER A YEAR NOW.

WE HAVE BEEN CREATING INFORMATIONAL MATERIALS THAT HAVE BEEN SENT OUT TO THE COMMUNITY THAT HELP DEFINE THE NEED.

WE HAD FOUND PREVIOUSLY THAT PEOPLE IN YOUR COMMUNITY REALLY BELIEVED THAT THE SCHOOLS WERE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.

THEY ARE INCREDIBLY HIGH PERFORMING AND THEY JUST DIDN'T UNDERSTAND.

YOU KNOW, A LOT OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS DO NOT HAVE CHILDREN IN SCHOOLS, AND THEY DRIVE BY AND THEY SEE BEAUTIFUL BUILDINGS, AND THEY KNOW THAT FAMILIES MOVE HERE FOR THE HIGH QUALITY SCHOOLS.

SO THEY JUST DIDN'T UNDERSTAND THE NEED. SO A LOT OF WHAT WE'VE BEEN DOING THIS PAST YEAR IS HELPING PEOPLE UNDERSTAND WHAT'S UNDERNEATH AND SOME OF THE PROBLEMS THAT WE ARE ACTUALLY FACING SOME OF THE SCHOOLS. SO WE'VE BEEN DOING COMMUNICATIONS WITH A MAIL THAT HAS GONE OUT INTO THE COMMUNITY.

SO YOU'VE PROBABLY SEEN THOSE PIECES THAT WENT OUT.

THE LAST MAIL PIECE WE HAD ACTUALLY HAD QR CODES WHERE PEOPLE COULD SCAN AND GO STRAIGHT TO VIDEOS, WHERE WE HAD A TEACHER TALKING ABOUT SOME OF THE ISSUES WITH THE OLDER SCIENCE CLASSROOMS. WE ALSO HAD A STUDENT TALKING ABOUT WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEMS FAILED.

SO AGAIN, PEOPLE COULD HEAR FROM ACTUAL STUDENTS AND TEACHERS WHO HAD BEEN IMPACTED BY SOME OF THESE CHANGES SO THAT THEY COULD UNDERSTAND WHAT WAS ACTUALLY GOING ON IN THE SCHOOLS. WE'VE BEEN USING SOCIAL MEDIA AND SHARING THAT OUT THROUGH THE SOCIAL MEDIA CHANNELS.

WE PUT TOGETHER AN FAQ AND A POWERPOINT PRESENTATION.

I KNOW THAT YOUR SUPERINTENDENT AND CABINET MEMBERS HAVE BEEN GOING OUT INTO THE COMMUNITY, PRESENTING AT EVERY AVAILABLE OPPORTUNITY THAT THEY HAD TO SHARE THIS WITH THE COMMUNITY AS WELL.

AND WE DO HAVE A DEDICATED PAGE ON THE DISTRICT WEBSITE.

IN ADDITION, WE DID FORM A QUARTERLY FACILITIES ADVISORY COMMITTEE, AND THIS HAD YOUR PRINCIPALS AND PARENTS FROM EACH OF THOSE COMMUNITY SCHOOL SITES COME TOGETHER.

I WOULD SAY MOST OF THE MEETINGS HAD BETWEEN 50 AND 100 PEOPLE AT THEM BEING ABLE TO RECEIVE INFORMATION, BUT ALSO HELP US UNDERSTAND HOW WE CAN BETTER COMMUNICATE OUT TO THE COMMUNITIES.

AND WE WERE ABLE TO UTILIZE THAT TO INFORM HOW WE CONTINUE TO COMMUNICATE OUT.

SO THERE'S BEEN A LOT OF STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT OVER THESE PAST FEW MONTHS, AND WE REALLY THINK THAT THAT HELPED INCREASE SUPPORT FOR THIS POTENTIAL BOND.

WE CERTAINLY SAW THAT IN THIS MOST RECENT SURVEY.

SO AGAIN JUST KIND OF TAKING A LOOK, THESE ARE THE MAILERS THAT I MENTIONED THAT HAD GONE OUT TO THE COMMUNITY.

SO TAKING A LOOK AT OUR OVERALL TIMELINE, ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS WE DID, I LIKE THIS TIMELINE BECAUSE YOU'RE SEEING THIS VERTICALLY WITH FOUR DIFFERENT ARROWS, THOSE ARROWS THAT ARE IN BLUE, THEY SHOW YOU THE ITEMS THAT THE DISTRICT CAN DO.

THOSE ARE THINGS THAT THE DISTRICT CAN DO AS PART OF UNDERSTANDING IF THIS IS FEASIBLE, COMMUNICATING WITH THE COMMUNITY ABOUT THE NEED AND THEN PREPARING THE DOCUMENTS THAT WOULD ACTUALLY BE VOTED ON BY THE BOARD OF EDUCATION IN A FUTURE BOARD MEETING.

AND NOW HE'S A HELICOPTER MECHANIC WITH THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, SO HE GOT TO SHOW WHAT HE DOES.

AND LAPD, LAFD DEPARTMENT OF WATER POWER. THEY CAME OUT THERE, SHOWED THEM THEY GOT TO HANG OUT INSIDE THE HELICOPTER, INSIDE THE HANGAR AND JUST LEARN OTHER CAREERS BECAUSE A LOT OF PEOPLE UNDERSTAND LIKE COPS OR FIRE, BUT THEY SEE WHAT OTHER KIND OF JOBS ARE IN THAT FIELD. THEY DON'T HAVE TO WAKE UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. THEY HAVE AN 8:00 TO 5:00 WORKING IN THE SAME DEPARTMENT. I KNOW THE BUS RIDE TO VAN NUYS DURING THIS TIME IN THE MORNING WAS LONG AND THE WAY BACK, I THINK THE BUS RIDE WAS LONGER THAN THE PRESENTATION, BUT MY SON HAD A GREAT TIME.

A LOT OF KIDS GOT A LOT OUT OF IT, SO I DEFINITELY WANT TO DO A BIG SHOUT OUT TO VANESSA TILFORD.

SHE'S GONE WAY ABOVE AND BEYOND IN HER NEW ROLE AND ORGANIZING SUCH A MEANINGFUL ACTIVITY FOR OUR KIDS.

AND THEN TODAY WAS A FUN DAY. WE HAD A COUPLE LOCKDOWNS AT BONITA HIGH SCHOOL.

HAPPY TO KNOW EVERYONE WAS SAFE. I WANT TO THANK SINCERELY THANK ALL THE STAFF AT BONITA HIGH SCHOOL AND THE LA VERNE POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR THEIR EFFORTS.

I KNOW PICKING UP KIDS. A LOT OF PEOPLE PICKED UP THEIR STUDENTS AND THERE WAS A LINE LONGER THAN DISNEYLAND, SOME OF THOSE RIDES THERE. I KNOW IT WAS VERY FRUSTRATING, BUT WE WANTED TO DO SO AND EVERYONE DID COME OUT SAFE.

DO SO AS CAREFULLY AS WE CAN, AS CAUTIOUSLY AS WE CAN.

AND I KNOW WE'RE DISCUSSING AND THINKING ABOUT A BOND AND JUST KNOWING CAMERAS ARE OUT THERE AND MORE SAFETY FOR OUR KIDS, BECAUSE THAT'S THE ONE THING I WANT TO GIVE.

LIKE, I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU'RE COMFORTABLE KNOWING YOUR KIDS WILL COME HOME SAFE, AND THAT'S SOMETHING WE CAN DO. SO IF THAT'S GOING TO BE ON THE BOND, THAT'S SOMETHING I WOULD BE HAPPY TO SUPPORT. AND THAT'S IT FOR ME.

I YAY, WOMEN. AND BOTH OF OUR TEAMS FROM BONITA AND SAN DIMAS, I BELIEVE, ARE BOTH MOVING FORWARD IN WOMEN'S WATER POLO. SO THEY ARE REALLY AWESOME PROGRAMS, AND I HOPE THOSE GIRLS DO REALLY WELL.

WE HELD SEPARATELY IN A VOLUNTEER ORGANIZATION THAT I AM PART OF.

WE HELD A CAREER SUPPORT PROGRAM OVER AT BONITA HIGH SCHOOL FOR 18 YOUNG WOMEN, SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS.

AND IT WAS SO GREAT TO SPEND AN AFTERNOON WITH THEM.

AND WE'RE GOING BACK IN TWO WEEKS TO SPEND AN ENTIRE DAY JUST WATCHING THOSE GIRLS DIG INTO THE TYPES OF CAREERS THAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO GO INTO. AND ONE OF THEM, FOR EXAMPLE, IS SHE'S JUST DETERMINED TO GO INTO CONSTRUCTION, AND SHE HAS BIG PLANS. AND IT WAS JUST IT'S REALLY NICE TO HEAR THEM SOMETIMES GO INTO THINKING ABOUT GOING INTO NONTRADITIONAL CAREERS.

I ALSO GOT TO SEE CINDERELLA THIS MONTH, AND IT WAS SO FANTASTIC.

AND TO SEE SO MANY CHILDREN ACROSS THE GRADE LEVELS ELEMENTARY THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL, IT WAS AN INCREDIBLE PROGRAM, AND I SO ENJOYED IT. AND KUDOS TO EVERYONE WHO HELPS PUT THESE ON, THEY REALLY ARE NOT JUST FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL, THEY ARE REALLY FOR OUR WHOLE SCHOOL DISTRICT.

IT WAS A VERY, VERY NICE PRODUCTION. AND ALSO I WAS ABLE TO GO ALSO TO EKSTRAND TO LISTEN TO JUST SOME MORE INFORMATION ABOUT OUR FACILITIES AND INFORMATION ABOUT THE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR AND IN IMPROVING THE DISTRICT. AND I WAS ABLE TO TALK TO A FEW MEMBERS IN OUR COMMUNITY AFTERWARDS.

AND WHEN I TALKED TO THEM ABOUT HAVING AIR CONDITIONING THAT'S OVER 40 YEARS OLD THAT WE'VE ONLY MADE REPAIRS TO JUST KIND OF KEEP IT GOING. AND WHEN WE TALK ABOUT PLUMBING THAT I LITERALLY SEE, I MEAN, WE HAVE BEAUTIFUL SCHOOLS, BUT SOMETIMES YOU'LL WALK AFTER A HEAVY RAIN AND THERE'S WHOLE SIDEWALKS WIPED OUT BECAUSE WE CAN'T DRAIN THAT WATER AWAY.

AND, YOU KNOW, HAVING HAD A SCHOOL CLOSE IN THIS LAST YEAR BECAUSE OF RESTROOMS THAT ARE SHUT DOWN.

I JUST THINK THAT IT'S SO IMPORTANT FOR NOT ONLY FOR ALL OF US TO KNOW ABOUT IT, BUT EVERYONE I'VE TALKED TO SINCE THEN, IT WAS LIKE, YOU KNOW, ALARM BELLS GOING OFF IN THERE.

LIKE, YOU KNOW, THEY LOOK SO GOOD, THESE SCHOOLS.

BUT WHAT'S UNDERNEATH THEM OR WHAT'S SUPPORTING THEM? YOU KNOW, THEY CAN'T SEE. SO THEY APPRECIATED ME SHARING.

AND IT'S BEEN AN INTERESTING PROCESS, BUT WE'RE ALL LEARNING FROM IT SO.

AND THAT'S IT. OKAY

MY DAD'S ADOPTED DAUGHTER. MY DAD'S PASSED AWAY, SO THIS IS A LONG TIME AGO.

SHE WENT INTO CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT AND HAS DONE A FANTASTIC JOB.

I HAVE TO SAY THESE THINGS BECAUSE MY DAUGHTER IS VERY HAS NATURAL LEADERSHIP ABILITY.

AND IF I DON'T KIND OF POINT OUT THAT WOMEN CAN DO AN AMAZING JOB IN A VARIETY OF FIELDS, SHE WILL LET ME KNOW ABOUT IT.

SO I JUST KIND OF WANTED TO EMPHASIZE THAT FACT.

ANOTHER THING MY DAUGHTER BROUGHT UP WAS AIR CONDITIONING.

WHENEVER THERE'S A PROBLEM, IT'S GREAT TO HAVE KIDS IN THE DISTRICT OR YOUR WIFE VOLUNTEERING ON THE CAMPUS AND STUFF LIKE THAT, BECAUSE THEY WILL TELL YOU STUFF. SO MY DAUGHTER HAS WE HAVE GREAT MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT.

I DON'T MEAN TO PUT THEM DOWN AT ALL, BUT THERE ARE THINGS THAT CAN BE REPAIRED.

AND IF THE ROOM IS TOO HOT, OR IF ONE OF HER FRIENDS IS SUPER HOT BECAUSE AIR CONDITIONING WAS BROKEN, BECAUSE AGAIN, IT IS OLD, IT IMPACTS THEIR EDUCATION.

SO I'VE HEARD IT WAS OVER 80 DEGREES. WE WERE SWEATING THIS AND THAT.

SO THESE AREN'T FABRICATED ISSUES. THESE ARE LONG STANDING ISSUES THAT DO NEED TO BE ADDRESSED.

AND THEY IMPACT KIDS IN THEIR EDUCATION. I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO A COUPLE EVENTS.

ONE OF THEM WAS THE SPELLING BEE. WE HAVE A BUNCH OF KIDS, ALL USUALLY VERY GOOD KIDS, SUPER SMART, HARD WORKING, AND THEY WERE ENGAGING IN A SPELLING BEE.

AND IT'S KIND OF A LITTLE BIT LIKE HIGHLANDER BECAUSE IT'S A COMPETITION AND THERE CAN ONLY BE 1 OR 3 WINNERS.

SO YOU HAVE ALL THESE KIDS HOPING TO BE THE WINNER.

AND MOST OF THEM ARE GOING TO FIND OUT THEY'RE NOT GOING TO BE THE WINNER. MY SON WAS IN THE SPELLING BEE, AND I SAW THE MOMENT WHEN HE REALIZED HE WAS SPELLING THE WORD INCORRECTLY. HE MADE IT TO THE SECOND ROUND. I WAS HAPPY ABOUT THAT.

THE SECOND ROUND WAS VERY EVENTFUL. THE FIRST ROUND YOU'RE LIKE, YES, THESE KIDS ARE DOING GREAT.

THE SECOND ROUND I'M LIKE, I WOULDN'T GET BEYOND THE SECOND ROUND.

I DON'T KNOW IF I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN BEYOND THE FIRST, BUT MY SON WAS THERE AND I JUST SAW HIS HEAD GO BACK AND HE JUST REALIZED HE MISSPELLED THE WORD. AND THEN AFTERWARDS, MY WIFE WENT TO PICK HIM UP, AND THERE WAS A LOT OF KIDS WHO WERE SAD, LEGITIMATELY SO. SOME WERE CRYING AND THEY WERE JUST REALLY PROCESSING THAT THEY PUT IN ALL THIS EFFORT AND THEY CAME UP SHORT.

AND WHAT WAS AMAZING ABOUT THAT, BESIDES THEY STUDIED THEY'RE LEARNING A LOT AND THIS IS GOING TO PAY DIVIDENDS IN THEIR FUTURE.

WAS THERE WAS A WHOLE BUNCH OF GOOD PARENTING HAPPENING IN THAT ROOM, A WHOLE BUNCH OF PARENTS GOING, YOU KNOW, YOU DID A GREAT JOB. I'M SO PROUD OF YOU.

IT'S THE WORK YOU DID. AND FOR MY SON WHEN HE WAS GETTING NERVOUS, I'M LIKE, YOUR MAIN GOAL ISN'T TO CRUSH YOUR OPPONENTS.

YOUR MAIN GOAL IS JUST TO MAKE SURE YOU'RE CALM, THAT YOU DO THE BEST JOB YOU CAN.

YOU NEED TO PUT IN THE WORK FOR PREPARATION, BUT IT'S HOW YOU APPROACH IT THAT I THINK PAYS BIGGER DIVIDENDS IN THE LONG RUN.

AND WHEN YOU HAVE ALL THESE PARENTS KIND OF SUPPORTING THEIR KIDS, I DON'T THINK YOU CAN LOVE ON YOUR KIDS ENOUGH.

AND THEY'RE IN THESE KIND OF COMPETITIVE SETTINGS, WHETHER YOU WIN OR NOT.

I THINK YOUR KIDS WIN. AND I WAS JUST VERY PROUD TO SEE ALL THE PARENTS SUPPORTING THEIR KIDS.

AND IS. IT'S SO HARD TO PROCESS THING, BUT I THINK IT WAS A VERY AMAZING EVENT.

HARD WORDS. I WOULD NOT WANT TO BE IN THE SPELLING BEE IN BONITA BECAUSE THAT LIST WAS SUPER HARD.

CINDERELLA WAS AMAZING. I BLANKED OUT ON THE GUY'S NAME, BUT YOU HAVE A WHOLE BUNCH OF SCHOOLS, SO SAN DIMAS HIGH SCHOOL, RAMONA ALSO DID AN AMAZING PLAY, BUT SAN DIMAS HIGH SCHOOL, THEY INVITE A WHOLE BUNCH OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AGE KIDS, MIDDLE SCHOOL KIDS, HIGH SCHOOL KIDS, AND THEY PUT ON THIS FANTASTIC PLAY.

YOU HAVE LIGHTS. YOU HAVE JUST THE WHOLE THING.

THERE'S SINGING. AND ONE OF THE DADS ACTUALLY BUILT A CINDERELLA CARRIAGE THAT WAS MOVED AROUND, AND IT LOOKED PROFESSIONALLY DONE. I THINK SOME PEOPLE WERE ASKING, DID WE RENT THIS? LIKE THERE'S A RENT A CARRIAGE PLACE, AND IT'S ACTUALLY THE VOLUNTEERS WHO PUT IN THEIR TIME TO MAKE SURE OUR KIDS GET A WORLD CLASS EXPERIENCE.

JUST AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE THAT THEY'LL REMEMBER FOREVER.

SO FOR ALL THE TEACHERS, STAFF, PARENT VOLUNTEERS AND PARENTS WHO ARE JUST DOING A PHENOMENAL JOB WITH THEIR KIDS, I JUST WANT TO THANK YOU FOR HELPING THE NEXT GENERATION TO HAVE BETTER OUTCOMES.

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST I'M A FIRM BELIEVER THAT YOU DON'T GET WHAT YOU DON'T PAY FOR.

AND IT'S NEVER A GOOD TIME TO PAY FOR ANYTHING.

WHEN I WENT TO COLLEGE, I HAD NO MONEY TO GO TO COLLEGE.

IT WASN'T. I DIDN'T COME FROM A SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS THAT WOULD SAY YOU SHOULD GO TO COLLEGE.

AND I HAD TO TAKE OUT LOANS. THERE WAS A WHOLE BUNCH OF ISSUES GOING THERE.

BUT BECAUSE I MADE THAT SACRIFICE, I HAD MUCH BETTER OUTCOMES IN THE LONG RUN.

THERE WAS AN AMAZING RETURN ON INVESTMENT. AND WHENEVER WE'RE LOOKING AT WHETHER IT IS A CITY THING WITH HAVING OUR STREETS PAVED OR FIGHTING CRIME OR KEEPING OUR NEIGHBORHOODS CLEAN, OR IF IT'S AN ISSUE WITH MAKING OUR SCHOOLS BETTER, THERE IS A FAR BETTER RETURN ON INVESTMENT WITH LOCAL PROJECTS THAN THERE IS ON

MY THREE CHILDREN ARE CURRENTLY RAMONA MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS THAT RIDE THE BUS TO AND FROM SCHOOL DAILY.

THEIR BUS STOP IS ON D AND 10TH STREET AT BONITA HIGH SCHOOL.

IT IS FRUSTRATING AND CONCERNING THAT I AM STILL WAITING ON THE DISTRICT TO INFORM ME ABOUT THE LOCKDOWN SITUATION.

MY CHILDREN THAT WERE WAITING FOR THE BUS. WERE USHERED INTO THE HIGH SCHOOL CLASSROOM FOR A HARD LOCKDOWN.

AT NO POINT DID ANYONE INFORM ME OF THE HARD LOCKDOWN THAT MY CHILDREN WERE INVOLVED IN.

AT 8:12, I CALLED BONITA HIGH SCHOOL WITH NO ANSWER.

AT 8:15, I CALLED RAMONA AND WAS TOLD THAT THE LOCKDOWN HAD BEEN LIFTED WITH NO FURTHER UPDATES ON THE STATUS OF MY CHILDREN.

AT 8:20, I CALLED THE DISTRICT OFFICE. THE OPERATOR SAID THE DISTRICT WAS WORKING ON A STATEMENT TO BE SENT OUT TO THE SCHOOL SITES.

I EXPLAINED THAT MY CHILDREN ARE NOT STUDENTS AT BONITA AND ASKED HOW I WOULD BE INFORMED OF THE UPDATES.

THE OPERATOR WAS NOT CONCERNED ON SOLVING THIS PROBLEM FOR ME AND SAID THE SCHOOLS WILL GET A STATEMENT SHORTLY.

AGAIN, I AM STILL WAITING. I'M REQUESTING A COPY OF THE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES FOR LOCKDOWNS.

THERE WAS A STUDENT ON CAMPUS WITH A GUN SHOUTING HE WANTED TO SHOOT PEOPLE.

THERE WAS A BOMB THREAT. THE DOOR ON THE CLASSROOM THAT MY CHILDREN WERE IN DID NOT HAVE A LOCK.

THE BUS ROUTE WAS CANCELED BEFORE CHILDREN EVEN GOT TO THE BUS STOP.

ALL GOOD RELATIONSHIPS STARTS WITH COMMUNICATION.

TODAY BONITA UNIFIED FAILED IN THIS AREA OF OUR RELATIONSHIP.
