THEY CAN GET BACKPACKS AND THEN A WHOLE OUTFIT OF CLOTHES. IT'S JUST SO NICE TO HAVE A GENERAL COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION FROM BOTH SAN DIMAS LA VERNE, FIREMEN, POLICEMEN, KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS, CITY OFFICIALS, AND THEN THE DISTRICT OFFICIALS COMING OUT TO HELP. IN THIS CLASS, THE TEACHER PRESENTED A BIASED ONE-SIDED LECTURE ABOUT THE ISRAEL-GAZA CONFLICT. HE SHARED AN AL JAZEERA POST ABOUT THE HORRIS IN GAZA, BUT FAILED TO MENTION THE ATROCITIES OF OCTOBER 7TH, THE HOSTAGES STILL HELD BY HAMAS OR PROVIDE ANY BALANCED FACTUAL INFORMATION. HE TOLD STUDENTS THAT ISRAEL HAS STOLEN LAND AND THAT ISRAEL SHOULD STAND ALONE. WHEN MY DAUGHTER ASKED QUESTIONS, HE SUGGESTED, "IT IS BEST THAT SHE MOVE TO ANOTHER CLASS, EFFECTIVELY EXCLUDING HER BECAUSE OF HER JEWISH IDENTITY." THIS IS NOT ONLY DISCRIMINATORY, IT IS A POTENTIAL TITLE 6 VIOLATION UNDER FEDERAL LAW. STUDENTS TRUST THEIR TEACHERS, WHEN BIASED INCOMPLETE NARRATIVES ARE PRESENTED AS FACT. IT DOESN'T JUST MISINFORM. IT RISKS PERPETUATING STEREOTYPES INCITING ANTI-SEMITISM AND CREATING A HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT FOR JEWISH STUDENTS. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME MY DAUGHTER HAS FACED ANTI-SEMITISM AT BONITA. IN HER FRESHMAN YEAR, SHE WAS A VICTIM OF ANTI-SEMITIC HARASSMENT BY A STUDENT. AT THAT TIME, I E MAILED THE SUPERINTENDENT AND PRINCIPAL AND WE REQUESTED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS ON ANTI-SEMITISM. THAT TRAINING NEVER HAPPENED. WE MUST ASK. WAS THIS LECTURE PART OF AN APPROVED CURRICULUM? DID THE SCHOOL BOARD REVIEW AND APPROVE IT? HOW DOES THE DISTRICT ENSURE THAT US HISTORY LESSONS ARE FACTUALLY ACCURATE, BALANCED AND FREE OF ANTI-SEMITIC TROPES? WHAT TRAINING DO TEACHERS RECEIVE ON HANDLING SENSITIVE GEOPOLITICAL ISSUES RESPONSIBLY? MOST IMPORTANTLY, WHAT STEPS WILL BE TAKEN TO PROTECT JEWISH STUDENTS AND ENSURE THEY FEEL SAFE, RESPECTED, AND INCLUDED. LAST YEAR, WHEN THESE PRODUCTS WERE PLACED IN GIRLS' RESTROOMS, PARENTS WERE NOT NOTIFIED, AND THIS YEAR, WHEN THIS LAW EXPANDED TO BOYS' RESTROOMS, PARENTS WERE STILL NOT NOTIFIED. CRITICS WARN THIS VAGUE DEFINITION COULD LET ANYONE CLAIM AUTHORITY OVER THEIR CHILD WITHOUT THE PARENTS KNOWLEDGE OR SIGNATURE. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CURRENT STANDARD WHERE THE PARENT, GRANDPARENT, OR GUARDIAN OF A CHILD OR CHILDREN FILL OUT AN EMERGENCY CARD FOR A "AUTHORIZED ADULT" THAT THEY HAVE CHOSEN IN ADVANCE. THIS IS GENERALLY A DISTANT FAMILY MEMBER OR A NEIGHBOR, SHOULD THE PARENT BE UNABLE TO PICK UP THE CHILD OR CHILDREN THEMSELVES. NO ONE, AND I MEAN NO ONE, NOT CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS, NOT MAYORS, NOT TEACHERS, NOT SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS, NOT COUNTY SUPERVISORS, NOT ASSEMBLY OR SENATE REPRESENTATIVES, AND NOT EVEN THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA HAS THE POWER TO CREATE LAWS THAT UNDERMINE THE AUTHORITY OF PARENTS, GRANDPARENTS, AND GUARDIANS.
