5.2 IN CLOSED SESSION, THE BOARD TOOK ACTION TO APPROVE A FINAL SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT AND RELEASE BETWEEN PARENTS OF CG AND THE BONITA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT OAH, CASE NUMBER 2023040102, PURSUANT TO WHICH THE DISTRICT HAS AGREED TO FUND AND PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL SERVICES TO THE STUDENT AND THE STUDENT'S PARENTS HAVE RELEASED CLAIMS AGAINST THE DISTRICT IN EXCHANGE FOR EDUCATIONAL SERVICES AS SPECIFIED IN THE AGREEMENT.

THE MOTION WAS MADE BY GREG PALATTO WITH A SECOND BY DEREK BAHMANOU.

THE ROLL CALL VOTE WAS UNANIMOUS.

REPORT OUT ON 5.3 IN CLOSED SESSION, THE BOARD TOOK ACTION TO APPROVE THE EMPLOYMENT OF SHAWN CASEY AS PRINCIPAL AT THE ED JONES EDUCATIONAL CENTER. THE MOTION WAS MADE BY JIM ELLIOTT WITH A SECOND BY GLENN CREIMAN.

THE ROLL CALL VOTE WAS UNANIMOUS.

I'M INCREDIBLY HONORED AND HUMBLED TO BE STANDING HERE TONIGHT AS YOUR NEWLY APPOINTED PRINCIPAL AT CHAPARRAL VISTA HIGH SCHOOL WORKING IN BONITA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT HAS BEEN A BLESSING AND I HAVE A LOT TO BE THANKFUL FOR.

FIRST, I WOULD LIKE TO THANK MY FAMILY, MY WIFE, GLADYS, MY SONS MATTHEW AND SEAN FOR THEIR UNWAVERING SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGEMENT THROUGHOUT MY CAREER AND ESPECIALLY IN MY LIFE. THEIR LOVE AND ENCOURAGEMENT HAVE BEEN THE DRIVING FORCE, AND I AM DEEPLY GRATEFUL FOR ALL THEY HAVE DONE FOR ME.

CELEBRATIONS, AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONS.

FIRST, I LIKE TO START OFF BY CONGRATULATING MR. CASEY ON BEING SELECTED AS PRINCIPAL OF CHAP VISTA.

HE HAS BEEN A GREAT ADDITION TO OUR BULLDOG FAMILY FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS AS OUR DEAN OF STUDENTS AND WE ARE EXCITED THAT HE WILL BE SERVING AS OUR PRINCIPAL.

ON JUNE 2ND, WE WILL BE HOLDING OUR ALOHA SENIORS RALLY.

THIS INCLUDES A LUNCHEON AND DEPARTMENT AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIPS WILL BE PRESENTED.

AMONG OTHER AWARDS, WE WILL ALSO ANNOUNCE OUR STUDENT OF THE YEAR, OUR BULLDOG AWARD, WHICH RECOGNIZES THAT STUDENTS WHO HAVE SHOWN RESILIENCE AND DETERMINATION AT BOTH VISTA AND CHAPARRAL AND OUR DOGS AWARD TO THE STUDENTS WHO EXEMPLIFIED OUR DOGS CREED.

DO THE RIGHT THING, OWN YOUR ACTIONS, GIVE RESPECT AND SHOW PRIDE.

THIS YEAR WE HAVE A NEW AWARD CALLED THE VISTA LEGACY AWARD, WHICH RECOGNIZES THE STUDENTS WHO HAVE DEMONSTRATED BULLDOG EXCELLENCE WHILE ATTENDING ALL THREE YEARS AT BOTH VISTA AND CHAPARRAL.

WE HAVE A LOT PLANNED AS WE LOOK FORWARD TO OUR GRADUATION COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY ON JUNE 6TH AT THE BCA.

ACADEMICS COLLEGE AND CAREER PREPARATION.

ON MAY 9TH, WE WILL HAVE OUR FINAL THREE SENIOR PRESENTATIONS.

THIS WILL MAKE A TOTAL OF 52 PRESENTATIONS FOR THE YEAR.

ARTS STUDENTS ARE WORKING ON PROTEST POSTERS.

THEY HAD TO CHOOSE A POSITION ON A SOCIAL ISSUE AND CREATE A POSTER TO EXPRESS WHAT THEIR POSITION IS.

ACTIVITIES. LAST WEEK WE CELEBRATED OUR ANNUAL FOOD FEST 2023.

ACTIVITIES THROUGHOUT THE WEEK INCLUDE AN INTERNATIONAL FOOD DAY, OUR FIRST BULLDOG COOK-OFF AND OUR CHOP COMPETITION.

OUR BULLDOG COOK-OFF HAD PAIRS OF STAFF AND STUDENTS GO HEAD TO HEAD WITH THE FOOD CHALLENGE AS EACH TEAM PREPARED A SIGNATURE DISH.

FOR OUR FIFTH ANNUAL CHOP COMPETITION, CULINARY ONE STUDENTS COMPETED AS HEAD CHEFS WITH ADVANCED CULINARY STUDENTS, SERVED AS SOUS CHEFS.

THIS YEAR'S WINNER WAS JUNIOR TRINITY RIVERA AND HER DISH OF ANDOUILLE SAUSAGE, GOAT CHEESE AND LEMON TOSTADA.

LET'S JUST SAY THERE WAS A LOT OF GOOD EATING THAT WEEK.

THIS WEEK IS TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK, AND WE HAVE 13 OF THE MOST AMAZING TEACHERS.

WE CELEBRATED WITH A BAGEL AND A PARFAIT BUFFET BREAKFAST ON TUESDAY AND THROUGHOUT TODAY, WE CELEBRATED EACH TEACHER WITH A READING OF A PERSONALIZED LETTER WRITTEN BY A STUDENT WHO HAS POSITIVELY IMPACTED BY HAVING THAT SPECIFIC TEACHER.

OUR GRADUATES ARE EXCITED FOR OUR SENIOR TRIP GRAD BASH AT UNIVERSAL STUDIOS, MAY 26TH.

SPORTS. ON MAY 12TH, WE WILL BE HOLDING OUR ANNUAL SENIORS VERSUS JUNIORS AND VISTA STUDENTS WIFFLE BALL GAME.

I AM THE MANAGER OF MY TEAM, SENIORS AND I DIDN'T LOSE LAST YEAR, SO I'M NOT GOING TO LOSE THIS YEAR.

IT WILL BE PART OF OUR STUDENT OF THE MONTH RALLY.

SOFTBALL IS STILL UNDEFEATED.

OUR NEXT GAME IS SCHEDULED FOR MAY 24TH.

OUR SCHOOLWIDE CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT STILL HAS SIX TEAMS REMAINING.

I'D LIKE TO THANK THE BOARD AND MR. WIEN AND CABINET FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE AS CHAPERON VISTA'S BOARD REPRESENTATIVE FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS AND SHARE ALL THE WONDERFUL THINGS HAPPENING AT CHAP VISTA.

SAN DIMAS HAS BEEN EXCELLING THIS PAST MONTH.

OUR CULINARY TEAM IS CURRENTLY IN WASHINGTON DC, COMPETING AT THE POST ART NATIONALS CUP.

WE HAD A SEND OFF FOR THEM ON FRIDAY AND THEY WERE ALSO HONORED BY RINGING THE BELL ON CAMPUS.

THE ANNUAL SCHOLAR BANQUET WAS HELD ON THE 25TH WHERE VALLEY VISTA FIVE TRIPLE THREAT SCHOLAR, ARTIST, SCHOLAR, LEADERS AND SCHOLAR ATHLETE RECIPIENTS WERE GIVEN SOME AMAZING AWARDS. OUR RENAISSANCE ACADEMIC RALLY IS APPROACHING.

THIS IS WHERE WE NAME OUR VALEDICTORIAN AND SALUTATORIAN ALONGSIDE OVER 700 KIDS WHO EXCELLED IN ACADEMICS THIS YEAR FOR ATHLETICS.

AS MANY OF OUR SPRING SPORTS ARE ENDING, WE CELEBRATED NUMEROUS SENIORS WITH ALL OF OUR SENIOR NIGHTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.

OUR BASEBALL TEAM WAS NAMED UNDEFEATED VALLEY VISTA LEAGUE CHAMPIONS.

THEY PLAYED IN ROUND ONE OF CIF JUST TODAY, AND THEY WERE ABLE TO TAKE THE WIN.

THE BOYS VOLLEYBALL TEAM WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT INTO CIF AFTER ONLY THEIR SECOND SEASON OF PLAYING SAN DIMAS COMPLETED THE REGULAR SEASON WITH A DOMINANT LEAGUE PERFORMANCE AS FINISHED WITH UNDEFEATED LEAGUE CHAMPIONS IN BOTH BOYS AND GIRLS SPORTS.

GOLF DOES IT AGAIN AND FINISHES THE SEASON AS UNDEFEATED LEAGUE CHAMPS FIVE AND ZERO AGAIN FOR OUR ARTS.

OUR DRAMA DEPARTMENT HAS WRAPPED UP THEIR VARSITY MUSICAL HIGH SCHOOL.

HIGH SCHOOL, THE MUSICAL.

JAZZ BAND WRAPPED UP THEIR FESTIVAL SEASON LAST SATURDAY WITH A UNANIMOUS SUPERIOR AND FINISHED SECOND OUT OF SEVEN TEAMS IN OUR CLASS.

WE'RE GETTING READY FOR ISD ROCKS, WHICH IS A ROCK CONCERT THAT WILL BE ON SATURDAY, MAY 20TH AT THE BCA.

COLOR GUARD MADE THEIR WAY UP THE RANKS THIS YEAR WITH THEIR SHOW AND TOOK THIRD PLACE.

DRUMLINE ALSO TOOK FIRST IN ONE SHOW AND THIRD IN ANOTHER.

SO BOTH ARE HEADED TO THE CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR ACTIVITIES.

THIS PAST WEEK WE HAD AN AWESOME SPIRIT WEEK TO HYPE UP STUDENTS FOR PROM, WHICH WAS THIS PAST SATURDAY.

IT WAS HELD AT THE LONG BEACH CONVENTION CENTER, AND WE WERE ABLE TO HOST AROUND 500 STUDENTS TO ENJOY THE NIGHT DANCING AWAY.

CLASHES APPROACHING.

THIS IS A COMPETITION FILLED WITH GAMES WHERE WE COMPETE, TO WHICH WE SEE WHICH GRADUATING CLASS TAKES THE WIN.

THIS IS OUR MOST LOOKED FORWARD TO EVENT OF THE YEAR AND I, ALONGSIDE MY ASB CLASS, I'M REALLY EXCITED TO SEE IT ALL COME TOGETHER.

WE WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE SEVEN STUDENTS ATTEND THE CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF STUDENT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE IN SANTA CLARA.

DURING THAT CONFERENCE, WE HAD THREE LEADERSHIP STUDENTS WHO CHOSE TO LEAD A WORKSHOP AND SHARE THEIR KNOWLEDGE TO OVER 200 STUDENTS SO THEY COULD TAKE INFO AND TRAINING BACK TO THEIR CAMPUSES.

EVA AND VANESSA, TWO OF OUR CURRENT CASTLE STATE BOARD MEMBERS, PUT ON AN INCREDIBLE CONFERENCE FOR OVER 700 STUDENTS FROM ALL OVER CALIFORNIA.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO CONTINUING NEXT YEAR AS NOAH BIERI WILL BE REPRESENTING SDSU AS A CASTLE BOARD STATE MEMBER.

AND BEFORE I WRAP IT ALL UP, I WOULD LIKE TO INTRODUCE MY PRESIDENT ELECT FOR THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.

[INAUDIBLE] IT HAS BEEN AN HONOR TO BRAG ABOUT MY AMAZING SCHOOL OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS, AND I TRULY THANK YOU GUYS ALL FOR THIS EXPERIENCE.

OUR STUDENTS RECENTLY FINISHED STATE TESTING AND AS A LITTLE INCENTIVE, WE OFFERED FREE BREAKFAST BURRITOS TO EVERY STUDENT TAKING A TEST IN THE MORNING BEFORE CLASS.

AND JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT TESTING WAS OVER, WE'RE IN AP TESTING NOW, AND THE CULMINATION OF ALL THAT HARD WORK IS GOING TO PAY OFF.

IT IS ALSO TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK ON CAMPUS, AND OUR THEME IS MAGIC SCHOOL BUS.

TOMORROW WE'LL BE DELIVERING PRESENTS TO OUR TEACHERS TO THANK THEM FOR ALL THEIR HARD WORK THIS PAST YEAR.

FOR ARTS, THE BONITA HIGH SCHOOL COLOR GUARD GOT FIRST PLACE AND A GOLD MEDAL AT THE [INAUDIBLE] PRELIMS AND GOT FIFTH OVERALL AT CHAMPIONSHIPS AT THE CAL STATE LONG BEACH PYRAMID IN THEIR DIVISION.

OUR AMAZING THEATER PROGRAM PUT ON THEIR MUSICAL LEGALLY BLOND LAST WEEK AND IT WAS INCREDIBLE.

AND IF YOU GOT TO SEE IT LIVE, THEN YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT.

FOR ATHLETICS, OUR SOFTBALL TEAM, IN THEIR VERY FIRST YEAR AS A D1 TEAM MADE CIF BUT UNFORTUNATELY FELL SHORT IN THE FIRST ROUND.

AND ONE OF BONITA'S VERY OWN MAX DISTASO NOT ONLY BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD, BUT ALSO THE LEAGUE RECORD FOR THE 50 METER FREESTYLE SWIM AND WAS AWARDED CO MVP OF THE LEAGUE.

WE RECENTLY HAD OUR ACTION NIGHT CELEBRATION, WHICH WAS THE BATTLE OF THE CLASSES, AND OF COURSE THE SENIORS WON.

FINALLY WE HAVE GRADUATION COMING UP, WHICH INCLUDES OUR GRAD WALKS, AND FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR, OUR SENIORS WILL COME BACK FROM THOSE GRAD WALKS AND HAVE THEIR VERY OWN SENIOR RALLY.

I WANT TO THANK YOU AGAIN FOR LETTING ME COME AND SPEAK ABOUT THE PLACE THAT GAVE ME THE BEST FOUR YEARS OF MY LIFE SO FAR, AND I LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING MORE ABOUT WHAT BONITA ACCOMPLISHES AFTER I LEAVE.

IT WAS HIS FAVORITE THING WHEN TALKING ABOUT AN INSPIRATIONAL TEACHER.

IT'S NO SURPRISE THAT MR BYRD, THE BAND TEACHER, WAS HIS INSPIRATIONAL TEACHER FOR TWO REASONS.

ONE IS HE INSTILLED A LOT OF CONFIDENCE INTO GRISHAM, AND TWO, HE TAUGHT HIM AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT ABOUT MUSIC.

SOCIAL WORKERS PROVIDE DIRECT SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY, BUT CAN ALSO WORK WITH FAMILIES OUTSIDE OF THE SCHOOL TO MEET MATERIAL NEEDS AND CONNECT THEM TO LONG TERM SUPPORT AS NEEDED.

THE ANNE MENTIONED THAT THIS BEGAN THIS PROGRAM BEGAN REALLY AS SUPPORT FOR FOSTER YOUTH, BUT HAS EXPANDED OVER THE YEARS, PARTICULARLY IN THESE YEARS SINCE COVID, TO REALLY SUPPORT ALL STUDENTS WHO MAY HAVE ISSUES, PARTICULARLY ONES THAT EXIST OUTSIDE OF THE SCHOOL, THAT MAY BE KIND OF CREATING BARRIERS TO SUCCESS.

WE HAVE RIGHT NOW ABOUT 120 YOUTH IN FOSTER PLACEMENT.

THAT'S NOT THE TOTAL FOR THE YEAR.

THAT'S JUST HOW MANY ARE ENROLLED RIGHT NOW, ABOUT 95 FAMILIES EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS.

THAT'S UP SIGNIFICANT FROM WHAT WE SAW PRIOR TO COVID AND ABOUT 3400 STUDENTS DESIGNATED AS SOCIOECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED WHO MAY BE EXPERIENCED, LIKE I SAID, SOMETHING THAT IS CREATING A HEADWIND OR A BARRIER TO EDUCATIONAL SUCCESS.

AND SO THE TEAM REALLY SERVES THOSE STUDENTS BOTH WITHIN THE SCHOOL AND OUTSIDE OF THE SCHOOL.

SO THE TEAM DEVELOPED A VISION STATEMENT THIS YEAR.

THIS WAS CRYSTAL AND TIFFANY AND THE NINE SOCIAL WORKERS.

SO THIS IS NEW, A NEW VISION STATEMENT FOR US THAT REALLY, AS YOU CAN SEE, FOCUSES ON NOT ONLY WHAT HAPPENS IN SCHOOL, BUT ISSUES IN THE STUDENT'S LIFE OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL.

THAT'S WHERE SOCIAL WORK REALLY, YOU KNOW, DOES ITS WORK IS NOT JUST WHAT HAPPENS FROM 8 TO 3:00, BUT WHAT'S HAPPENING AROUND A STUDENT GETTING TO SCHOOL OR HAVING EVERYTHING THEY NEED TO PARTICIPATE IN SCHOOL OR EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES WITH A FOCUS ON EDUCATIONAL PROGRESS.

SO THAT'S REALLY WHAT SCHOOL BASED SOCIAL WORK DOES.

THE MISSION IS A VARIETY OF THINGS.

WE DO CONTINUE TO SUPPORT YOUTH AND FOSTER CARE IN SCHOOL.

WE DO A LOT OF COORDINATION WITH OUR STUDENTS WHO ARE IN RESIDENTIAL PLACEMENT PLACES LIKE HAYNES OR MCKINLEY.

WE'RE SUPPORTING FAMILIES WITH MATERIAL NEEDS AS NEEDED.

WE REALLY WANT TO ENSURE ACCESS FOR STUDENTS TO THE FULL EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE, NOT JUST GOING TO CLASS, BUT EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES, SPORTS ACTIVITIES AND REALLY GET BARRIERS DOWN LIKE COST.

FOR EXAMPLE, IF A STUDENT MAKES A TEAM BUT CAN'T AFFORD EQUIPMENT, WE WANT TO PROVIDE THAT FOR THEM.

THOSE SORTS OF THINGS.

WE CONNECT STUDENTS TO COMMUNITY RESOURCES.

WE HAVE MULTIPLE PARTNERS AS WELL AS LONG LISTS OF RESOURCES.

AND THEN IN THE SCHOOLS THEY DEVELOP WHAT WE CALL TIER ONE, WHICH IS KIND OF FOUNDATIONAL WELLNESS EDUCATION, SOMETHING THAT WE GIVE TO ALL STUDENTS.

THEY PARTICIPATE VERY DIRECTLY IN THE DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THOSE PROGRAMS. AND THEN A CASELOAD OF WHAT WE CALL TIER TWO, WHICH IS STUDENTS WHO NEED A LITTLE EXTRA SUPPORT.

SO AN EXAMPLE MIGHT BE A STUDENT WHO HAS A LOT OF ABSENCES.

THEY MAY BE WORKING WITH THAT FAMILY TO KIND OF FIGURE OUT WHAT'S GOING ON AND PROVIDE RESOURCES TO IMPROVE THAT.

THIS IS KIND OF A SUMMARY OF ONE WEEK, I THINK IT WAS BACK IN THE FALL BECAUSE THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT CHRISTMAS LISTS, BUT IT GIVES YOU A SENSE OF WHAT OUR FOLKS ARE SPENDING THEIR TIME DOING. THIS IS ONE WEEK AND THIS IS NOT AN EXHAUSTIVE LIST.

THERE WAS A STUDENT WHO ONLY EATS FRESH FRUIT BUT WAS HAVING TROUBLE GETTING IT IN A GROUP HOME SETTING, PROVIDED THAT DONATED FURNITURE LITERALLY DIDN'T JUST ARRANGE FOR THE DONATION, BUT INTERNS PERSONALLY TOOK FURNITURE AND THEN ACTUALLY CONNECTED SOME OF OUR YOUTH WITH THE COUNTY OMBUDSMAN FOR THEM TO ASK QUESTIONS AND KIND OF SHARE THEIR PERSPECTIVE. SO ALL OF THAT IS PART OF WHAT HAPPENED IN ONE WEEK IN OCTOBER.

SO THIS IS THE WORK THEY'RE DOING EVERY WEEK.

YOUR STAFF HAS CREATED AN UNJUST, PROFESSIONALLY NEGLIGENT ENVIRONMENT, DENYING MY CHILD THE RIGHT TO A FREE AND APPROPRIATE PUBLIC EDUCATION.

YOUR STAFF HAS BEEN MORE THAN AWARE OF THEIR LEGAL OBLIGATIONS UNDER AMERICAN DISABILITY ACT AND SECTION 504 TO MY SON.

YET THEY HAVE INTENTIONALLY CHOSEN TO DO NOTHING ABOUT IT.

SO I HAVE FILED COMPLIANCE COMPLAINTS AND I AM SUING BONITA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT.

YOUR DISTRICT IS SPENDING EXORBITANT AMOUNTS OF MONEY ON SEVERAL ATTORNEYS TO FIGHT ME RATHER THAN REIMBURSE ME FOR THE SERVICES I AM WILLING TO PROVIDE HIM.

AS A RESULT OF THE DISTRICT'S FAILURE TO PROVIDE COMPETENTLY AND ADEQUATELY UNDER THE LAW.

BEING ONLY 22, I'VE BEEN DIRECTLY IMMERSED IN THE SEXUALIZED SOCIETY FROM A MORE RECENT PERSPECTIVE, I UNDERSTAND THE PSYCHOLOGICAL IMPACT OF OVERSEXUALIZATION, ESPECIALLY AT A YOUNG AGE, AND I CAN TELL YOU IT'S NOT FOR THE BETTER.

STUDIES SHOW THAT ADOLESCENT EXPOSURES LEAD TO AN INCREASE IN SEXUAL ADDICTIONS, PORNOGRAPHY, ADDICTIONS AND INCREASE IN RELATIONAL ABUSE AND SO MUCH MORE.

A CHILD ENTERS PUBERTY AT A TRANSITIONAL TIME IN THEIR LIVES, WHERE THEIR BODIES ARE PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY READY TO TRANSITION FROM AN ADOLESCENT TO AN ADULT.

WHY ARE WE EXPOSING THESE KIDS TO SEXUAL IDENTITIES AND PORNOGRAPHIC MATERIALS WHEN THEIR BODIES HAVEN'T EVEN SHIFTED INTO THAT STAGE OF THEIR LIFE? I THINK THAT'S A CONCERN OF ALL THESE PARENTS IS WHY.

I UNDERSTAND THE CHALLENGE THAT COMES WITH THESE TOPICS.

ONCE AGAIN, I WOULD KNOW I HAVE A SON WHO JUST GOT INTO UCSD.

IT WAS NOT EASY FOR HIM, I'M CERTAIN.

NOT ONLY DOES BOOK BANNING HAVE AN IMPACT ON STUDENTS, BUT ON OUR TEACHERS.

AND SHOULD YOU KNOW THIS, WE FEEL LIKE WE ARE SUFFERING AGAINST THE GUILLOTINE OF A BACKLASH OF BOOK CHOICE.

SHOULD WE NOT DECIDE TO LOOK AT BOOKS IN OUR CLASSROOM, BUY BOOKS, TALK ABOUT BOOKS, BECAUSE THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT WE'RE DOING RIGHT NOW.

WE'VE DECIDED, MANY OF US, NOT TO EVEN COME HERE AND TALK TO YOU BECAUSE WE'RE AFRAID OF WHAT YOU MIGHT DO.

MANY ARE CONCERNED THAT THEY NEED TO START WHITING OUT PAGES OF BOOKS, NOT DISCUSSING PORTIONS OF BOOKS, NOT TALKING ABOUT BOOKS.

LET'S JUST NOT CARRY BOOKS BECAUSE IT'S WHAT YOU WANT US TO DO.

BUT THAT IS HOW WE FEEL.

YOU KNOW, IF I HAD NEVER READ THE HANDMAID'S TALE, BANNED BLOODS, AN ORAL HISTORY OF THE VIETNAM WAR, BANNED A LIGHT IN THE ATTIC BANNED.

I WOULD HAVE NEVER FOUND THE CREATIVITY OR THE DESIRE TO BECOME A TEACHER OR TO HAVE THE EMPATHY THAT I DO TODAY.

YOU KNOW, I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT AS A PARENT OF BUSD, I AM THE ONE WHO'S RESPONSIBLE FOR THE BOOKS THAT MY CHILDREN READ, NOT YOU, THE DISTRICT.

I AM SOLELY ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE TYPES OF MATERIALS THAT HE READS, ALL FIVE OF THEM, NOT THIS DISTRICT. I AM THE ONE WHO WILL ATONE FOR THE CHOICES THAT HE MUST MAKE AT THE END OF THIS DAY, NOT THIS DISTRICT. WHEN I FIRST HEARD ABOUT BOOKS BEING BANNED IN SAN DIMAS HIGH SCHOOL AND MORE SPECIFICALLY, THE BONITA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT, I WAS VERY CONCERNED BECAUSE, FIRST OF ALL, I DIDN'T KNOW WHICH BOOKS WERE BEING BANNED BECAUSE THE INFORMATION WASN'T REALLY ACCESSIBLE OR EASY TO GET TO.

AND THEN WHEN IT DID, I WAS SHOCKED BY FIRST THE FACT THAT, SURE, SOME OF THIS LANGUAGE IS VULGAR.

BUT SECOND, WE'RE NOT TALKING ABOUT THE VALUE THAT THESE BOOKS HAVE FOR VICTIMS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT, FOR THOSE OF VICTIMS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT, INCEST AND RAPE, READING LITERATURE THAT REPRESENTS THE STORIES THAT THEY LIVED THROUGH UNCONSENUALLY CAN PROVIDE A HEALING EXPERIENCE FOR MANY.

FOR THOSE IN THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL, ESPECIALLY THOSE IN THE AP LIT CURRICULUM, IT IS ESSENTIAL TO LEARN ABOUT TOPICS LIKE THESE BECAUSE THEY'RE GOING TO HAPPEN IN LIFE EVENTUALLY. I AGREE THAT SURE, A KINDERGARTNER SHOULD NOT BE READING THIS BOOK, BUT A FLAT OUT BAN OF ALL TOPICS INVOLVING VULGARITY FROM OUR DISTRICT OR A POTENTIAL EXTENSION TO THAT DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE STANDARDS FOR WHICH WE'RE BANNING THESE BOOKS ARE SO VAGUE CAN LEAD TO THE BANS OF OTHER BOOKS THAT ARE CRITICAL IN OUR HIGH SCHOOL LITERATURE PROGRAMS. THE FAMILY RESEARCH COUNCIL WAS AN ORGANIZATION THAT SINCE 2010 HAS BEEN ADVOCATING FOR THE BAN OF BOOKS THAT REGARD QUEER LITERATURE, JEWISH LITERATURE AND AFRICAN-AMERICAN STORIES. HOWEVER, FOR ONE OF THEIR EXECUTIVE LEADERS FROM 2013 TO 2015, JOSH DUGGAR, AN ADVOCATE OF BANNING BOOKS SUCH AS THE BLUEST EYE, BECAUSE IT WAS RELEASED WHEN HE WAS STILL IN HIS POSITION, WAS FORCED TO RESIGN AFTER COMMITTING SEXUAL ASSAULT AGAINST FIVE MINORS, FOUR OF WHICH WERE HIS SISTERS.

ORGANIZATIONS LIKE THE FAMILY RESEARCH COUNCIL DON'T HAVE A GREAT PAST, ALL WHILE ADVOCATING TO BAN BOOKS RELATED TO THE SAME CRIMES THAT THEIR EXECUTIVES COMMITTED.

FROM SOMEONE THAT IS AN ALUMNI OF SAN DIMAS HIGH SCHOOL AND A FORMER STUDENT OF BONITA UNIFIED.

I WANT MORE CRITICAL THOUGHT TO BE PUT INTO BANNING A BOOK BEFORE WE GO AWAY WITH THIS ACTION, BECAUSE IT OPENS THE DOOR FOR A REALM OF POSSIBILITIES THAT WE HAVE NOT EVEN BEGAN TO EXPLORE.

I WANT EDUCATION TO BE BOTH SAFE FOR STUDENTS AND ACCESSIBLE, BUT THIS IS NOT THE WAY TO DO IT.

WE CAN THINK ABOUT THIS MORE CRITICALLY AND GO AT A SLOWER AND MORE REASONABLE PACE.

THIS IS NOT THE SOLUTION THAT BONITA UNIFIED NEEDS.

AND WHILE I WAS ACTUALLY IN HIGH SCHOOL MYSELF, I WAS ALSO TAKING AP CLASSES WHICH ARE CONSIDERED TO BE AT A COLLEGE LEVEL ASSESSMENT.

AND THESE BOOKS, WHICH MOST OF YOU PARENTS ARE CLAIMING TO BE AROUND, COLLEGE LEVEL ASSESSMENT, I AGREE, SHOULD NOT BE HANDED OUT TO CHILDREN IN KINDERGARTEN OR IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, AS I FEEL IT IS AN INAPPROPRIATE TOPIC TO TALK ABOUT.

HOWEVER, MOST OF US IN MIDDLE SCHOOL AROUND ABOUT SIXTH OR SEVENTH GRADE ACTUALLY DO LEARN ABOUT SEX ED, AND IT IS EXPERIENCES THAT A LOT OF STUDENTS AND ACTUALLY A LOT OF PEOPLE I KNOW HAVE GONE THROUGH.

A LOT OF THESE BOOKS CAN BE WELL INFORMANT FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOT GONE THROUGH THESE ACTUAL SITUATIONS AND ALLOWED THEM TO EMPATHIZE AND SYMPATHIZE WITH PEOPLE WHO HAVE AND WILL ACTUALLY HELP PEOPLE CONNECT TOGETHER WHO HAVE BEEN IN SIMILAR SITUATIONS.

NOT ONLY THAT, BUT THESE BOOKS HAVE ACTUALLY BEEN AN EYE OPENER FOR A LOT OF STUDENTS AND HAVE ALLOWED A LOT OF NEW PLACES TO BE PASSED, ESPECIALLY IN SAN DIMAS HIGH SCHOOL, WHERE THEY HAVE NOW INSTALLED GENDER NEUTRAL BATHROOMS TO PROTECT THE SAFETY OF DIFFERENT STUDENTS IN THE SCHOOL.

I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT THAT WE DON'T OUTRIGHT CENSOR THESE BOOKS, BUT RATHER THAT IF YOU ARE A CONCERNED PARENT WHO FEELS THAT THESE BOOKS SHOULD NOT BE IN THE HANDS OF YOUR CHILDREN, YOU DO WHAT IT IS BEST YOU FEEL FOR YOUR CHILD.

MY PARENTS WOULDN'T ALLOW ME TO GO INTO A RATED R MOVIE UNTIL I WAS AROUND 16 OR 17 BECAUSE THEY KNEW IT WAS INAPPROPRIATE TOPIC FOR ME PERSONALLY.

HOWEVER, WHEN OTHER PARENTS ALLOWED THEIR KIDS TO GO TO THOSE SAME EXPERIENCES OR EVEN PLAY VIOLENT VIDEO GAMES, THEY DID NOT STOP THEM BECAUSE THEY REALIZED THAT IT WAS THEIR RIGHT AND THEIR CHOICE TO RAISE THE KIDS THE WAY THAT THEY FEEL.

BY YOU GUYS REMOVING THESE BOOKS FROM SCHOOLS, YOU ARE SORRY YOU ARE NOW REMOVING ANY PARENTS TO HAVE THE CHOICE AND FREEDOM TO RAISE THEIR KIDS THE WAY THEY WANT TO.

AND IF THEY ARE OKAY WITH THEIR KIDS SEEING THESE BOOKS AND READING THESE BOOKS, THEY SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO ACCORDINGLY.

BECAUSE MUCH LIKE THE RELATIONSHIP I HAD WITH MY PARENTS, THEY WERE HELPING ME TO GROW AS A PERSON AND TEACHING ME WHAT'S RIGHT OR WRONG.

AND I DO FEEL THAT IT IS THE PARENTS OBLIGATION TO DO THAT FOR THE STUDENT AS WELL.

I DID A LOT OF RESEARCH ON A NUMBER OF STUDIES REGARDS TO PEDOPHILES AND SEX OFFENDERS AS TO HOW THEY GROOM THEIR VICTIMS. AND THIS IS A SYNOPSIS OF A PLETHORA OF STUDIES.

THEY SINGLE OUT A CHILD AND THEN TREAT THEM AS COURAGEOUS AND SPECIAL.

THEY ISOLATE CHILDREN.

THEY GRADUALLY EXPOSE THEM TO SEXUAL CONTENT.

THEY DESENSITIZE THE CHILD WITH MORE AND MORE GRAPHIC SEXUAL PICTURES, STORIES, JOKES AND ACTIVITIES.

THEY SEEK TO BREAK DOWN BARRIERS ESTABLISHED BY PARENTS, THE CHURCH AND THE CHILD'S NATURAL OWN CONSCIENCE.

THEY ENCOURAGE THE CHILD TO KEEP SECRETS FROM PARENTS, MAKE PARENTS OUT TO BE THE ENEMY.

THEY TREAT CHILDREN AS COCONSPIRATORS IN THE RELATIONSHIP ACCORDING TO REIN, WHICH IS THE RAPE, ABUSE AND INCEST NATIONAL NETWORK. 93% OF VICTIMS KNOW THEIR PERPETRATOR.

SO IT'S NOT A STRANGER SNATCHING KIDS OFF THE STREET.

IT'S A COACH. IT'S A TEACHER, IT'S A NEIGHBOR, IT'S A FAMILY MEMBER.

AND SO I WOULD IMPLORE THE BOARD, DON'T DO THE WORK OF THE PEDOPHILES TO GROOM THESE CHILDREN, TO PREPARE THEM TO BE MOLESTED AND TO BE ABUSED.

I THINK WE NEED TO TAKE A STAND AGAINST FILTH.

IT DOESN'T DO ANYBODY ANY GOOD.

I DON'T WOULD ANYBODY ADVOCATE IF WE HAD BOOKS IN THE SCHOOL SYSTEM THAT TAUGHT STUDENTS HOW TO KILL THEIR TEACHER, HOW TO POISON THEIR PRINCIPAL? OBVIOUSLY, SOME BOOKS ARE BAD, SOME BOOKS ARE DETRIMENTAL.

PROVERBS 23 SEVEN SAYS AS A MAN THINKETH IN HIS HEART, SO IS HE.

SO IF WE'RE GOING TO ALLOW THEM TO FEED ON FILTH AND CONSIDER THAT PART OF A NORMAL EDUCATION, WE'RE GOING TO HAVE REAP THE CONSEQUENCES.

I WOULD BEG YOU TO REALIZE YOU HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY.

OBVIOUSLY, THERE'S CENSORSHIP AND THERE'S EDITING THAT GOES ON ALL THE TIME.

THERE'S MILLIONS OF BOOKS OUT THERE.

THERE'S ONLY A SELECT FEW THAT ARE IN LIBRARIES.

IF PARENTS WANT TO PURCHASE THIS BOOK FOR THEIR CHILDREN, IF THEY'RE THAT FOOLISH, NOBODY'S STOPPING THEM.

BUT FOR THEM TO GO TO A PUBLICLY FUNDED PUBLIC SCHOOL WITH OUR TAX DOLLARS TO READ FILTH IS AN ABOMINATION.
