THE SUCCESS OF OUR DISTRICT LIES IN THESE INDIVIDUALS AND THEIR FOCUS ON PREPARING EVERY STUDENT TO LIVE THEIR PURPOSE.
THEY ARE THE REASON OUR STUDENTS RANK AMONG THE TOP 10 PERCENT IN THE STATE.
THEIR COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE WILL PROPEL US TO REACH OUR NEXT GOAL OF 80% OF STUDENTS PROFICIENT IN LANGUAGE ARTS AND 70% IN MATH.

THE CHAMBER CHOIR WENT TO SAN DIEGO THIS PAST SPRING BREAK, AND THEY COMPETED IN A FESTIVAL OR COMPETITION THEY PLAY SECOND.
AND THEY ALSO GOT INVITED TO GO TO CARNEGIE HALL AND PERFORM THEIR NEXT SEASON.
OUR DANCE WENT TO USA NATIONALS AND COMPETED AT THE ANAHEIM CONVENTION CENTER.
THE TEAM HAD TO OVERCOME INJURIES AND STRUGGLES WITH COVID, AND THEY PLACED THIRD PLACE, WHICH IS THE HIGHEST IN SAN DIMAS HISTORY AT THE USA NATIONAL.
FOR OUR ATHLETICS, OUR BASEBALL TEAM IS COMPETING IN THE NATIONAL BASEBALL CLASSIC THIS WEEK.
THAT HAS THE TOP TEAMS FROM [LAUGHTER] AROUND THE COUNTRY.
SO WE ARE VERY EXCITED FOR THEM.

THIS CAREER SUPPORT WORKSHOP PROVIDES GIRLS WITH ACCESS TO PROFESSIONAL ROLE MODELS, CAREER EDUCATION AND THE RESOURCES TO LIVE THEIR DREAMS. PARTICIPANTS WILL LEARN ABOUT CAREER OPPORTUNITIES, SETTING AND ACHIEVING GOALS, OVERCOMING OBSTACLES AND MOVING FORWARD AFTER SETBACKS.
AND ARTS STUDENTS ARE FINISHING UP A PROJECT BASED ON POINTILLISM IN WHICH STUDENTS USE JUST DOTS OF PAINT TO CREATE DIFFERENT TYPES OF IMAGES.
STUDENTS ARE ASKED TO TAKE A SPIRIT ANIMAL QUIZ, WHICH MATCHES THEM UP WITH A SPECIFIC ANIMAL SIMILAR TO THEIR OWN CHARACTER.
STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO CREATE ONE AREA AND THEY'RE PAINTING WITH DOTS TO EXERCISE THE CONCEPT OF OPTICAL COLOR MIXING.
AND ACTIVITIES JUST PRIOR TO SPRING BREAK, WE HOLD OUR ANNUAL PICK OF THE LITER COMPETITION TEAMS OF TWO STUDENTS COMPUTED AND ACTIVITIES EACH DAY AT LUNCH.
WE HAD 11 TEAMS COMPETING, MADE UP OF STUDENTS RECOMMENDED BY STAFF MEMBERS AS STUDENTS WITH POSITIVE ATTITUDE AND LOTS OF BULLDOG SPIRIT.
ACTIVITIES INCLUDED A BALLOON STOMP PIN THE NOSE ON THE BULLDOG, AND A RING TOSS WITH A TEAM MEMBER WEARING A UNICORNS HORN.
THE TEAM EARNING THE MOST POINTS BY THE END OF THE WEEK IS AWARDED THE TITLE PICK OF THE LITTER.
THIS YEAR PICK OF THE LITTER WAS DYLAN'S TOWERS AND NATALIE BOLONOS.
ON MARCH 24TH, WE HELD OUR ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE AT CHAPARRAL LANES.
THIS IS OUR BEST STRIKE FOR SUCCESS EVER WITH THE BEST TURNOUT WE'VE HAD.

BUT BEFORE WE TALK ABOUT THE SPECIFICS OF WHAT THAT MEANS, I DO WANT TO FRAME THE CONVERSATION IN TERMS OF OUR CORE VALUE OF EQUITY.
IT'S THE DRIVING VALUE IN THIS DISTRICT IN THE WAY THAT WE'VE DEFINED IT IS IS EQUITY MEANS FOR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES PROVIDING WHATEVER IT IS THEY NEED IN ORDER TO BE SUCCESSFUL.

FIRST IS ACCESS TO AFFORDABLE AND QUALITY EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES DURING PRESCHOOL AND THE SECOND BARRIER THAT THESE FAMILIES HAVE IS ACCESS TO AFFORDABLE DAYCARE OPTIONS.
THE EXPANSION OF THESE TWO PROGRAMS WILL BENEFIT ALL FAMILIES, BUT IT WILL BENEFIT IN A SIGNIFICANT WAY FAMILIES FROM FINANCIALLY DISADVANTAGED BACKGROUNDS.
TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN. WE'VE HAD IT IN THIS DISTRICT SINCE 2013.
IT IS A YEAR ONE OF A TWO-YEAR KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM.
HISTORICALLY, THERE'S BEEN A RESTRICTED WINDOW OF NUMBER OF KIDS WHO ARE ABLE TO TAKE PART IN A TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN.
INSTEAD OF ENROLLING YOUR STUDENT WHEN THEY ARE FIVE IN KINDER, THE TK PROGRAM ALLOWS YOU TO ENROLL AT FOUR AND GET AN EXTRA YEAR OF PUBLIC SCHOOL.
LIKE I SAID, THAT WINDOW OF THE ABILITY FOR KIDS TAKE A FULL YEAR OF TK HAS BEEN RESTRICTED.
BEFORE WE TALKED ABOUT HOW IT'S GOING TO EXPAND.
THE BENEFITS OF TK ARE WELL-DOCUMENTED.

IT USED TO BE UP ALL THE WAY UP UNTIL THIS YEAR THAT TO QUALIFY AND BE ABLE TO TAKE A FULL YEAR OF TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN, YOU HAD TO MISS THE CUTOFF FOR KINDER WHICH IS SEPTEMBER 1ST, BUT THEN HAVE A BIRTHDAY BETWEEN SEPTEMBER 2ND AND DECEMBER 2ND, SO FOUR MONTH WINDOW TO GET A FULL YEAR OF TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN.
OBVIOUSLY, WHEN YOU ONLY HAVE FOUR MONTH WINDOW, YOU'RE MISSING A LOT OF FOUR YEAR OLDS THAT ARE NOT ABLE TO HAVE ACCESS TO A FULL YEAR OF TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN.
THE STATE IS GOING TO REMEDY THIS AND YOU CAN SEE ON THE SLIDE THEY ARE PROPOSING AND HIS PAST A PHASE IN.
EVENTUALLY EVERY STUDENT WOULD HAVE ACCESS, SO BEGINNING NEXT YEAR IN 22-23, INSTEAD OF BEING DECEMBER SECOND FOR THE CUTOFF, THAT DEADLINE EXTENDS TO FEBRUARY SECONDS.
ANY STUDENT WHO IS FOUR BUT TURNS FIVE BETWEEN SEPTEMBER SECOND IN FEBRUARY SECOND WOULD HAVE ACCESS TO TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN, NOT ONLY IN BENITO THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA.

IN THE SCHEDULE FOR NEXT YEAR, IT'LL BE A PHASED IN FOR THE FIRST MONTH, WILL BE A THREE-HOUR PROGRAM, 8:15,11:15.
THEN FROM MONTH TWO ALL THE WAY THROUGH MONTH TEN, IT'LL EXTEND TO NOON, AND SO A THREE-HOUR AND 45-MINUTE PROGRAM FOR THOSE TK STUDENTS.
NEXT YEAR IS YEAR ONE OF THIS EXPANSION AND SO WE'VE GOT SOME FUTURE CONSIDERATIONS THAT WE HAVE TO TAKE A HEAT OF SOME OF THEM FOR NEXT YEAR.

BUT DR. LEE AND HIS TEAM IN HR WILL WORK VERY HARD TO MAKE SURE THAT TEACHERS ARE ALREADY IN CREDENTIALED AND WILL PROVIDE THE SUPPORT TO THOSE TEACHERS AS THEY NEED.

THREE WEEKS LATER ANOTHER AUNT GAVE ME A CALL AND SAID YOUR OTHER COUSIN HAS AUTISM.
I TOOK A CLASS AT UCLA THAT WAS JUST AN AUTISM, FIGURED OUT IT, FELL IN LOVE WITH IT AND THEN THAT JUST GUIDED THE REST OF MY CAREER.
I WENT BACK TO NEW YORK WHERE MY COUSINS LIVE AND MADE PROGRAMS, ABA PROGRAMS FOR THEM, AND IT REALLY CHANGED MY LIFE.
I'M VERY PROUD TO SAY MY COUSINS WHO WAS BANGING HIS HEAD ON THE CORNER WHEN HE'S THREE YEARS OLD, NOW HAS A JOB AND IS ENGAGED TO BE MARRIED.
WHEN YOU PUT IN THAT EFFORT AND I KNOW OUR TEACHERS OR STAFF OR PARENTS DO EVEN OUR KIDS PUTTING A LOT OF EFFORT AT THE SCHOOLS.

JUST TO PUT IT IN A FRAME OF REFERENCE OF WHAT 871 IS, 871 WOULD LIMIT AN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION FROM UNCONDITIONALLY ADMITTING ANY STUDENT AS A PUPIL OF ANY PUBLIC OR PRIVATE SCHOOL FROM ATTENDING SCHOOL WITHOUT THE COVID VACCINATION, AND SO CERTAINLY THIS DISTRICT IS NOT ANTI-VACCINATION.
BUT IT IS AN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION AND WE DO KNOW, HEARING FROM PARENTS THAT THERE WOULD BE MANY FAMILIES WHO WOULD CHOOSE AN ALTERNATIVE EDUCATIONAL ASPECT IF THIS VACCINE WERE TO BE PASSED.

ADDITIONALLY, 866, AS YOU HEARD EARLIER, IS ANOTHER BILL THAT'S WORKING ITS WAY THROUGH THAT WOULD ALLOW A 12-YEAR-OLD TO GET THE VACCINATION WITHOUT PARENTAL CONSENT, AND WHERE THAT IMPACTS AT THE EDUCATIONAL LEVEL IS SCHOOLS THAT DO HAVE CLINICS.
OUR DISTRICT DOES NOT HAVE CLINICS FOR STUDENTS TO RECEIVE THE VACCINATION.
WE FEEL IT'S READILY AVAILABLE NOW AT PHARMACIES AND THROUGH THE DOCTOR'S OFFICE AND OTHER MEANS.
BUT IT WOULD MEAN THAT IF A CHILD DOES DEVELOP SYMPTOMS OR OTHER THINGS,

I THINK THAT WE'RE PROBABLY NOT THE ONLY DISTRICT UP AND DOWN THE STATE THAT IS GOING TO HAVE A SIMILAR POSITION ON THIS.
MY CONCERN AND EXPECTATION TO BE HONEST IS THAT THEY WILL PAY JUST AS MUCH ATTENTION TO SCHOOL BOARDS AS THEY DID WHEN WE OPPOSE THE LATE START INITIATIVE, WHICH IS TAKING EFFECT NEXT YEAR.
I'M NOT TRYING TO BE CYNICAL, I'M JUST TRYING TO BE REALISTIC HERE IN THAT IF ALL THEY HEAR FROM IS THE 1,000 OR SO SCHOOL BOARDS UP AND DOWN THE STATE AND PEOPLE, VOTERS AND CITIZENS DON'T TAKE IT UPON THEMSELVES TO LET THEIR LEGISLATURES KNOW, THEN THIS MAKES US FEEL GOOD, MAKES US LOOK GOOD, BUT NOTHING WILL COME OF IT.

WE HAD ABOUT 30 REALTORS FROM AROUND THE AREA, WHICH WAS A GREAT TURNOUT FOR OUR FIRST EFFORT.
CARL GAVE A REAL GOOD TALK ABOUT HOW SUCCESSFUL AND HIGH SCORING OUR SCHOOLS ARE IN THE DISTRICT.
I THINK HE DID SUCH A WONDERFUL JOB OF HIGHLIGHTING THE GREAT THINGS ABOUT THIS DISTRICT THAT BY THE TIME THOSE REALTORS GOT BACK TO THEIR OFFICES, I THINK THE PROPERTY VALUES IN LA VERNE AND SAN DIMAS HAD GONE UP BY FIVE, 10 PERCENT MINIMUM.

IT WAS SUCH A TREAT AND IT BROUGHT BACK SOME MEMORIES.
WHAT A THRILL IT IS TO SEE WHAT OUR CHILDREN CAN DO.

FOR HIMSELF HE ACTUALLY WENT TO, I THINK IT'S AROUND 37 DIFFERENT SCHOOLS AND HE DROPPED OUT IN EIGHTH GRADE TO MAKE MONEY BECAUSE HE HAD TO WORK AND THEN HE LATER ON WENT TO DO SOME GREAT THINGS.
THAT'S ONE THING THAT WE SHOULD JUST KEEP IN MIND THAT BONITA, WE HAVE A HUGE FOSTER POPULATION THAT DO GO TO DIFFERENT SCHOOLS.
WE HAVE A LARGE COMMUNITY OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE TO WORK AFTER SCHOOL AND SKIP THAT EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES TO MAKE SOME MONEY TO HELP THE FAMILY.

FIRST AND FOREMOST, AS [INAUDIBLE] WOULD'VE SAID, YOU'RE PREACHING TO THE CONVERTED AS FAR AS WHO'S HERE AND PRESENT AND MAKING STRIDES BEYOND THIS ROOM TO MAKE SURE THAT THIS REACHES THE LEVELS THAT IT NEEDS TO, TO AFFECT REAL CHANGE THAT FAMILIES ARE GOING TO SEE AND BE PROTECTED.

I REALIZE YOU CAN'T ANSWER DURING THIS TIME, BUT IT WAS FLOATED AT THE LAST MEETING DURING THE COMMENTARY PORTION PRIOR TO THE PUBLIC BEING ABLE TO SPEAK ABOUT HAVING A TOWN HALL MEETING WITH THE APPLICABLE REPRESENTATIVES HOLDING IN PALATINO SO THAT PARENTS CAN COME TO A LARGER FORUM AND REPRESENT OUR COMMUNITY AND HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO ADDRESS THAT WITH THEM AS FAR AS MAKING THAT KNOWN.
I ALSO WANTED TO OFFER THE POSSIBILITY OF IF PARENTS WERE TO AUTHOR A PETITION THROUGH THE DISTRICT FOR THOSE WHO WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE.
IT WOULD BE A CHOICE TO SIGN AS MAKING A COMMUNITY DECLARATION SO AS TO CONCUR WITH WHAT WAS PASSED HERE TODAY AND MAKE THAT NOT JUST A SYMBOL, BUT MORE OF A COHESIVE UNION AND SAYING THIS IS REFLECTIVE OF WHATEVER THE PORTION OF THE COMMUNITY IS.
I THINK IT'S MORE THAN NOT BECAUSE AS YOU TALK ABOUT THE OVERALL VISION OF THE DISTRICT, GROWING THE POPULATION, HAVING A POPULATION STARTING YOUNGER AND MAKING THAT LIFE OR LONG INVESTMENT, YOUR CONCERN ABOUT ENROLLMENT ADA, YOU HAVE A DISTRICT THAT LISTENS TO PARENTS AND MOVES WITH THEM.
I THINK THAT'S GOING TO BRING YOU MORE, AND NOT JUST FROM A FINANCIAL PERSPECTIVE, BUT THOSE VALUES AND MAKING SURE EVERYBODY IS SUCCESSFUL IN THE WAYS THAT THEY NEED TO BE, TO BE PRODUCTIVE, TO BE HAPPY, TO BE SAFE, AND FEELING EVERYONE HAS A VOICE TO BE HEARD.
I APPRECIATE THAT. IT WAS JUST A SUGGESTION I WANTED TO OFFER IN MOVING THIS CONVERSATION FORWARD BECAUSE I DON'T THINK THAT UNTIL WE HEAR IT FROM THE HORSE'S MOUTH, TO BE KIND, AT THE TOP THE POWERS THAT BE.

MY EXPERIENCE THROUGH THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND NOT HAVING ENOUGH INFORMATION AND ALSO IS NOT AS PERSONAL AS I WANTED IT TO BE, HAVING LETTERS EVERY SO OFTEN WHEN THINGS WERE CHANGING EVERY DAY WAS VERY ESSENTIAL TO A WORKING PARENT HAVING MULTIPLE JOBS, BEING ABLE TO ASSESS THEIR SITUATION AND CHANGE ACCORDINGLY, MAKING MODIFICATION AS NEEDED.
THAT'S ONE THING THAT I'VE BROUGHT UP TO THE DISTRICT.
IN ADDITION, HAVING JUST ESSENTIAL COMMUNICATION PLAN ABOUT EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS IN THE DISTRICT.

GIVING THE COMMUNITY AN OPPORTUNITY TO BE AWARE OF THE CHANGES OR EVEN THE CHANGES THAT THE DISTRICT CONSIDERING SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS THE CURRICULUM IS ESSENTIAL FOR THE SUCCESS OF THIS COMMUNITY.
HAVING ALSO THE OPPORTUNITY TO REVIEW THE MATERIAL AND GIVING THE FEEDBACK.
