MY NAME IS MEGAN OTTO AND I'M THE PRESIDENT AT BONITA HIGH SCHOOL.

OVER THE PAST MONTH, OUR SCHOOL HAS PUT ON A LOT OF FUN EVENTS.

WE HAVE OUR ANNUAL TIME OF GIVING.

WE WERE ABLE TO DONATE OVER 200 ITEMS TO SHEPHERD'S PANTRY ENGLAND NORTH HELP FAMILIES IN NEED FOR THANKSGIVING.

THE WEEK WE CAME BACK FROM THANKSGIVING BREAK, WE HAD WELLNESS THIS WEEK.

THIS WEEK FOCUSES ON MENTAL HEALTH AND WAYS TO DISTRESS.

WE HAD A LOT OF TEACHERS OPENING UP THEIR CLASSROOMS DURING LUNCH OR DISTRESSING ACTIVITIES, INCLUDING WATCHING MOVIES, MEDITATING, PAINTING AND JOURNALING.

[INAUDIBLE] WE LIKE TO FOCUS ON OUR MENTAL HEALTH AND GIVING OUR PEERS RESOURCES TO HELP EACH OTHER OUT.

THESE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS HAVE BEEN FILLED WITH OUR WINTER SPORTS PLAYING SAN DIMAS, OUR GIRLS WATER POLO, GIRLS BASKETBALL AND BOYS WRESTLING.

WE'RE ABLE TO BRING THE TITLES HOME.

OUR STUDENTS ARE SO EXCITED TO BE BACK TOGETHER IN OUR STUDENT SECTION, WHICH WE CALL THE DEN TO SUPPORT OUR FELLOW BEARCATS.

OUR CHOIR WILL BE HAVING THEIR ANNUAL HOLIDAY CONCERT TODAY AND TOMORROW WITH THE BCA BONITA DANCE, AND [INAUDIBLE] WILL ALSO BE HAVING THEIR PERFORMANCE IN THE BCA ON SATURDAY.

BAND HAD THEIR HOLIDAY CONCERT LAST WEEK.

WE LOVE THAT OUR ARTS ARE GETTING US IN THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT.

WE LOVE SEEING ALL OUR BEARCATS SHOWING OFF WHAT THEY LOVE DOING AND SUPPORTING EACH OTHER.

12, WE HELD OUR RECOGNITION ASSEMBLY FOR THE MONTH OF OCTOBER.

JUAN LOPEZ WAS NAMED THE [INAUDIBLE] STUDENT OF THE MONTH AND [INAUDIBLE] WAS NAMED THE [INAUDIBLE] STUDENT OF THE MONTH.

MR. MYERS WAS NAME THE STAFF MEMBER OF THE MONTH.

WE CONTINUE TO RECOGNIZE ALL STUDENTS WITH ZERO TARGETS, ACADEMICS, COLLEGE AND CAREER PREPARATION.

LAST FRIDAY, WE HELD HER COLLEGE CAREER DATE.

STUDENTS LISTEN TO GUEST SPEAKERS AND RESEARCH COLLEGE CAREER READINESS.

THERE WAS A TOTAL OF 15 GUEST SPEAKERS.

THE [INAUDIBLE] STUDENTS ESCORTED THE GUESTS TO ASSIGNED ROOMS AND OFFER CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST.

THERE WERE SIX SESSIONS THAT STUDENTS ATTENDED FOR THE SPEAKERSHIP VIDEOS, WEBSITES AND VISUALS OF OTHER CAREERS TO HAD LUNCH WITH THEIR SPEAKERS AND ENDED THE DAY WITH COLLEGE SHIRTS THAT MATCH WHAT WAS REQUIRED FOR THE DESIRED CAREER.

THE THEME WAS YOUR FUTURE IS NOW ARTS AND ARCHIVES.

STUDENTS ARE WORKING WITH CHARCOAL, CREATING IMAGES USING A FULL VALUE SCALE.

STUDENTS ARE FIRST REQUIRED TO MAKE PRACTICE VALUE SCALES, MATCHING UP SUPPLIES TO THEM AFTER THEY MASTERED THE STEP AND FIT FELT CONFIDENT USING THE MATERIAL THEY'LL MOVE ON TO CHOOSING THE PHOTO THEY WILL HAVE TO REDRAW AND MATCH TO THE VALUES.

ACTIVITIES ON NOV.

18, WE HELD OUR ANNUAL TURKEY SHOP WHERE STUDENTS RAISED THE WIN A FROZEN TURKEY FOUR TURKEY USE WERE AWARDED, [INAUDIBLE], WHO RAN A VICTORY LAP ALL OVER THE SCHOOL, HOLDING THE FROZEN TURKEY OVER HIS HEAD.

A BIG THANK YOU TO SAN DIMAS [INAUDIBLE] FOR PROVIDING THE TURKEYS.

NOVEMBER 20TH WE HAVE OUR ANNUAL THANKSGIVING OLYMPICS, WHERE ALL [INAUDIBLE] CLASSES COMPETE FOR A RIDICULOUS LOOKING TROPHY THAT LOOKS LIKE A TURKEY AND COMES WITH BRAGGING RIGHTS.

TEAMS DRESSED UP IN THEIR TEAM COLOR, [INAUDIBLE] FACE PAINT, AND CAPES AND ONE TEAM EVEN WORE PURPLE TUTUS.

THIS YEAR'S WINNERS WERE THE TEAL TEAM FROM [INAUDIBLE] THE SPIRIT AWARD WENT TO THE [INAUDIBLE] BLUE TEAM.

AS PART OF OUR THIRTY DAYS OF GIVING WE'RE CURRENTLY MAKING BLANKETS FOR THE HOUSE OF [INAUDIBLE].

STUDENTS COME INTO THE RENAISSANCE ROOM DURING LUNCH AND PARTNER UP FOR EACH BLANKET.

OUR GOAL IS TO MAKE 15 TWIN SIZED BLANKETS.

OUR RENAISSANCE CLASS IS CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR DONATIONS OF FLEECE FOR THIS PROJECT.

WE HOLD TO BAKE SALE EVERY WEDNESDAY AND WILL BE DONATING THESE PROCEEDS TO THE ANIMAL SHELTER IN SAN DIMAS.

IN NOVEMBER, WE MADE EACH STUDENT AND STAFF MEMBER HAND SANITIZER CALLED BULLDOG [INAUDIBLE].

WE ALSO MADE EACH PERSON A BLANKET WITH VARIOUS COLORS, PATTERNS OF BEADS, THROUGHOUT THE DAY.

WE EACH HAD TO FIND TWO OR THREE PEOPLE WEARING THE SAME EXACT BRACELET.

THIS EXPERIMENT WAS VERY SUCCESSFUL IN ENCOURAGING STUDENTS AND STAFF TO REACH OUT TO PEOPLE AND BECOME MORE COMFORTABLE AND CONFIDENT.

OUR FOOTBALL.

SPORTS, OUR FOOTBALL SEASON IS OVER AND BASKETBALL WILL BE STARTING ON DEC.

WE WERE CHALLENGED TO A VOLLEYBALL TEAM BY MOUNT OLIVE HIGH SCHOOL ON DECEMBER 1ST.

THAT WAS PLAYED AT SAN DIMAS HIGH SCHOOL AND A BIG SHOT TO THE SAINTS FOR THE USE OF THE GYM.

MOUNT OLIVE BEAT THE BULLDOGS TWO GAMES TO ONE.

I LIKE WISH THE BOARD, SUPERINTENDENT COLES, AND THE BONITA SCHOOL DISTRICT COMMUNITY VERY HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND HEALTHY, PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR.

IN THE ACADEMIC CATEGORY, WE HAVE KIND OF SHIFTED OUR MINDSET FROM SEEING ACADEMICS RATHER THAN AN ADDITION TO ATHLETICS AS ITS OWN ENTITY AND EVEN RECOGNIZING THAT.

WE'RE ALSO FOCUSING ON RECOGNIZING OUR ACADEMIC STUDENTS BY OPENING UP OUR GOLDEN WORLD OF STARS IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS.

AND ALSO, WE'RE ENDING OUR SEMESTER STRONG BY RECOGNIZING THOSE IN OUR CLASSROOMS, WITH FINALS COMING UP IN THE ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT, WITH MOST OF OUR TEAMS GOING TO CIF WE HAVE ALL MOVED ON IN THE FALL SPORTS CATEGORY.

PAST THE FIRST ROUND.

SO WE ALL MAKE IT TO THE SECOND ROUND OR FURTHER.

AND THEN WITH STARTING OUR WINTER SEASON, WE HAVE HAD OUR BONITA GAMES AND WE HAVE WON ALMOST ALL OF THEM.

SO IT'S VERY EXCITING AND WE'VE ALSO BEEN IN THE PROCESS OF RECOGNIZING OUR SENIORS AND VARSITY SPORTS FOR THE WINTER SEASON.

IN THE ACTIVITY DEPARTMENT, WE'VE KIND OF SEEN A DROP OFF IN ACTIVITIES BUT OUR [INAUDIBLE] IS WORKING ON CREATING SOME NEW FUN THINGS FOR NEXT WEEK, LIKE STRESS TRIGGERS LIKE A STRESS FREE WEEK AND RECOGNIZING OUR STUDENTS AND THEIR MENTAL HEALTH AND TRYING TO INCREASE POSITIVITY WITH FINALS SEASON.

IN OUR ARTS DEPARTMENT, OUR CHOIR PERFORMED THEIR FIRST TIME IN DCA.

WE HAVE HAD A DRUM PERFORMANCE IN THE QUAD CALLED THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT TIME.

OUR MARCHING BANDS DID A WONDERFUL JOB.

WE [INAUDIBLE] TO GO TO FINALS, AND WE ALSO HAVE A [INAUDIBLE] COLLEGE WORKSHOP WITH OUR CHOIR AND JAZZ.

AND SO WE'RE NOT WE DON'T HAVE A LOT OF BIG, NON-MATERIAL CHANGES TO OUR BUDGET.

SO WHAT ARE THE CHANGES THAT WE'VE MADE AND INCORPORATED IN THERE ARE BASICALLY THE THINGS WE DO EVERY YEAR WE UPDATE ALL OUR BEGINNING FUND BALANCES TO WHAT OUR ACTUAL AGING BALANCE WAS.

WE RECORD ALL OF OUR CARRYOVERS.

SO UNSPENT FUNDS IN THE DIFFERENT PROGRAMS AND THE SITE BUDGETS GET CARRIED OVER INTO THE NEW YEAR.

IF WE HAVE REVENUES THAT ARE BASED UPON ENROLLMENT AND THERE'S A SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN ENROLLMENT, WE WILL UPDATE THOSE.

THE GENERAL FUND CONTRIBUTIONS TO SPECIAL EDUCATION, THE ROUTINE RECURRING MAINTENANCE FUND.

WE UPDATE ALL OF OUR SALARY BENEFITS AT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR.

SO WHEN WE HAVE THE JUNE BUDGET, WE KIND OF PRETTY MUCH KNOW WHERE PEOPLE ARE NOW.

WE'RE SLOTTING THEM INTO THEIR PROPER STEP AND CALL ON MAKING SURE THEIR BENEFITS ARE RIGHT.

AND LET ME JUST LOOK AT ALL OF THE EXPENDITURE ACCOUNTS AND PROGRAMS AND UPDATE EVERYTHING.

SO PUTTING ALL OF THAT TOGETHER AT JUNE, OUR PROJECTED LOSS AND THIS IS UNRESTRICTED GENERAL FUND ONLY IS 3.7 MILLION.

NOW THAT'S 4.210 MILLION, WHICH IS A FOUR POINT SIXTY NINE THOUSAND DOLLARS CHANGE, AND MOST OF THAT IS DUE TO THE CARRYOVERS FROM LAST YEAR.

SO AT THE END JUNE 30TH, 2021, THE SITES HAD NOT SPENT ALL OF THEIR MONEY.

SO WE ROLL THAT MONEY OVER INTO THE NEXT YEAR, SO IT BECOMES A BUDGETED EXPENDITURE OF THIS YEAR.

SO EVEN THOUGH IT LOOKS LIKE WE'RE DOING WORSE, IT'S MOSTLY JUST A TIMING CHANGE, JUST MOVING EXPENDITURES FROM ONE YEAR INTO THE NEXT.

SO THE PROJECTED UNRESTRICTED ENDING FUND BALANCE FOR THE CURRENT YEAR'S TWENTY THREE MILLION FOUR HUNDRED EIGHTY THREE THOUSAND, THAT IS 18 PERCENT OF TOTAL GENERAL FUND EXPENDITURES, STATE REQUIREMENT IS THREE PERCENT AND OUR DISTRICT REQUIREMENT IS SEVEN PERCENT.

SO WHAT WE'RE DOING ON THIS IS WE'RE NOW SAYING, I MEAN, WE'VE ALWAYS BEEN CONCERNED ABOUT KIDS.

WE WANT KIDS TO COME TO SCHOOL, OBVIOUSLY.

BUT NOW THIS IS EVEN MORE IMPORTANT TO DEVELOP PROGRAMS AND WORK ON SPECIFIC THINGS WE CAN DO TO INCREASE NOT ONLY ENROLLMENT, BUT ALSO INCREASE THE 88 PERCENT GETTING IT TO SCHOOLS FEWER ABSENCES.

I JUST WANT TO TAKE A LITTLE SEGWAY AND TALK ABOUT COVID 19 FUNDING BECAUSE WE'VE HEARD A LOT ABOUT THAT.

WE DO HAVE SEVEN DIFFERENT PROGRAMS WHERE WE'RE BEING FUNDED.

TOTAL REVENUE OF TWENTY FIVE MILLION DOLLARS.

THESE ARE FEDERAL AND STATE FUNDED PROGRAMS. THE DEADLINES FOR SPENDING THE PROGRAMS VARY FROM MAY 31ST OF THIS YEAR, JUST PASSED ALL THE WAY OUT UNTIL SEPTEMBER 30TH OF 2024.

THE STATE PROJECTIONS ARE PRETTY ROSY FOR THE NEXT, AT LEAST THE NEXT YEAR, BUT WHO KNOWS WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN AFTER THAT? SO IT'S ALWAYS GOOD TO HAVE THAT MONEY IN YOUR PIGGY BANK.

SO JUST A MINUTE, WE'LL TALK ABOUT THE STATE BUDGET OUTLOOK.

SO THE LAO DID COME OUT A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO, PROJECTING THAT THERE WOULD BE $20 BILLION MORE IN PROP 98 FUNDING FOR 22-23 THAN WHAT THEY HAD ORIGINALLY ESTIMATED BACK IN JUNE.

AND THAT'S MADE UP.

THAT INCREASE OF 20 BILLION IS MADE UP HALF.

YOU KNOW, THEY JUST USED VERY CONSERVATIVE BUDGET ESTIMATES, RIGHT? THEY JUST DID NOT FORESEE OR DID NOT PROJECT THIS SURGE IN STATE REVENUES THAT WE'VE BEEN SEEING.

AND AT THE SAME TIME, BECAUSE TAXES ARE UP.

THAT INCREASES THE K-14 PROP 98 GUARANTEE CALCULATION.

SO THESE ARE THE ORIGINAL ESTIMATED COLAS FROM BACK IN JUNE.

THESE ARE THE COLAS THAT WE'VE USED IN OUR PROJECTION.

NOW WHAT THEY'RE TELLING US IS THAT FOR 2022-23, INSTEAD OF 2.48 THEY'RE PROJECTING MORE THAN DOUBLE TO 5.35 PERCENT AND THEN FOR 23-24, AN INCREASE FROM 3.11 TO THE 3.5 PERCENT.

SO WHEN I SPOKE BEFORE ABOUT THAT $2 MILLION PLUG WE HAVE IN, IF THIS COLA PANS OUT FROM THE 5.35 WHICH IT'S GOING TO LAND SOMEWHERE AROUND THERE, THAT WILL GIVE US ABOUT TWO AND A HALF MILLION DOLLARS MORE IN ONGOING REVENUES STARTING NEXT YEAR IS GOING TO MORE THAN OFFSET THAT $2 MILLION PLUG OF OURS THAT WE HAVE IN THERE.

SO THIS IS REALLY GREAT NEWS.

SO, YOU KNOW, IT'S GOING TO MAKE OUR ALREADY REALLY STRONG FINANCIALS EVEN STRONGER.

SO WE'LL HEAR, WE'LL BE HEARING MORE ABOUT THAT IN JANUARY.

YOU KNOW, THE COUNTY AND THE STATE SAYS, YOU KNOW, IT'S GOOD MORE MONEY, BUT THERE ARE THINGS WE DO NEED TO BE CAREFUL ABOUT.

OBVIOUSLY, THE INFLATION, NOT TO MENTION THE SUPPLY CHAIN PROBLEMS THAT ARE AFFECTING EVERYBODY, DOES AFFECT US TOO.

AGAIN, THE RISING PENSION COSTS, BUT WE REALLY DO TRY TO PLAN FOR THOSE RISING PENSION COSTS.

WE PUT ALL OF THAT IN OUR PROJECTIONS AND THEN BUT WE DO HAVE TO NEED TO KEEP TRACK OF ON TOP OF ENROLLMENT ADA.

AND THEN JUST THE ECONOMIC OUTLOOK IN THE OUT YEARS.

SO WE'LL BE KEEPING TRACK OF ALL OF THOSE THINGS.

SO PUTTING THAT ALL TOGETHER WE ARE CERTIFYING A POSITIVE CERTIFICATION, WHICH MEANS WE WILL BE ABLE TO MEET ALL OF OUR FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS AND CASH FLOW FOR THE CURRENT AND THE SUBSEQUENT TWO FISCAL YEARS.

SO A LOT OF TIMES WHEN WE SAY BUDGET ADJUSTMENTS, IT'S JUST MOVING MONEY BETWEEN CATEGORIES LIKE THAT.

AND I KNOW PARENTS AT HOME ARE TALKING TO YOUR KIDS, BUT REALLY DOING NOTHING CHANGES NOTHING.

SO I DO APPRECIATE THE ADMIN WHO ARE STEPPING UP AND TRY TO MAKE THE CHANGE FOR ALL OF OUR STUDENTS.

THESE TYPE OF THINGS CAN'T CONTINUE, SO I HOPE YOU FIND SOLUTIONS.

SO WHEN YOU SEE THE AWARDS LIKE NUMBER ONE SCHOOL IN READING WITHIN SPECIFIC POPULATIONS OR NUMBER ONE WORKPLACE, I THINK THAT REALLY REFLECTS SOME GREAT MANAGEMENT, SOME GREAT PRIORITIES THAT ARE HAPPENING.

UNFORTUNATELY, IF THE VETERANS ATTENDED WERE NOT VACCINATED AND WOULD NOT SHOW PROOF OF NEGATIVE COVID TEST, THEY WERE NOT ALLOWED TO SIT AND PARTICIPATE, BUT MADE TO STAND BEHIND CAUTION TAPE.
