I DO WANT TO POINT OUT AS WE START THAT THE STATE AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENTS HAVE BEEN QUITE HELPFUL TO DISTRICTS AND WHAT THEY'VE GIVEN TO US TO HELP US RESPOND.
ON THE TABLE THAT YOU SEE IN FRONT OF YOU, NINE DIFFERENT PODS OF MONEY.
ALL OF THEM RELATED TO COVID-19.
SOME OF THEM STARTED RIGHT AFTER IN THE SPRING OF 2020 AND THEN SOME ARE COMING OUT NOW, BUT YOU SEE A PRETTY ROBUST RESPONSE BY THE GOVERNMENTS TO HELP DISTRICTS.
IT'S NOT LIKE WE'RE ON OUR OWN TRYING TO DO THIS. THEY'RE TRYING TO HELP US.
WHEN YOU ADD IT ALL UP AND YOU GO ACROSS FROM LEFT TO RIGHT IS $25 MILLION WORTH OF MONEY THAT WE HAVE RECEIVED TO HELP US RESPOND TO THE PANDEMIC AND WE'RE NOT GOING TO TALK ABOUT EIGHT OF THESE PODS.
WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT ONLY ONE AND THAT GOES ALMOST ALL THE WAY OVER TO THE RIGHT, THE EXPANDED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES OR ELO GRANT TO ABOUT $6.4 MILLION.
TWO THINGS BEFORE WE MOVE ON TO CONSIDER, ONE 25 MILLION TOTAL, BUT TWO, THIS IS ONE TIME MONEY AND SO EACH ONE OF THESE NINE SEPARATE PODS, WE GET ONE TIME, BUT IMPORTANTLY WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE BOTTOM, YOU'LL NOTICE THAT WE CAN EXPEND IT ALL THE WAY FROM 2020, ONE ALREADY EXPIRED, ALL THE WAY THROUGH 2024.
ALTHOUGH IT'S ONE TIME MONEY, WE CAN'T GET MULTI-YEAR BENEFIT BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE TO SPEND IT ALL AT ONCE.

THIS IS AN ABOVE AND BEYOND WHAT WE GET FOR THE LCFF AND ANY OTHER FEDERAL DOLLARS, 25 MILLION IS A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF MONEY FOR US.
SPECIFICALLY, TO THE ELO, IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE AB 86,

THEY DID PUT FORTH MONEY FOR US TO HELP REOPEN SCHOOLS AND HELP MITIGATE LEARNING LOSS MOVING FORWARD.PART OF THE PROVISION OF THE LAW WAS ON OR BEFORE JUNE 1ST, THAT'S TODAY, GOVERNING BOARDS HAVE TO LOOK AT THE PLAN AND ADOPT IT IN ORDER TO GET THE MONEY OUT.
OF THE NINE POTS OF MONEY YOU SAW IN THAT TABLE, THIS IS THE ONLY ONE THAT REQUIRES A SPECIFIC PLAN WRITTEN ON A CDE ISSUED TEMPLATE WITH BOARD APPROVAL.
THIS IS THE ONLY ONE OF THE NINE SO FAR THAT THEY'VE REQUIRED US TO DO THAT FOR, AND THAT'S WHY WE'RE HERE TONIGHT.

SECOND THING THAT IS THE INTENTION OF THIS GRANT IS TO HELP PROVIDE FOR SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING FOR STUDENTS AND THE REASON THAT'S IMPORTANT IS THIS, WHEN WE ASK OUR STAKEHOLDERS WHAT ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS AS A DISTRICT THAT WE SHOULD HAVE PRIORITIES ON OR THAT WE SHOULD FOCUS ON TIME AND TIME AGAIN, TWO THINGS COME UP.
ONE, MAINTAIN OR INCREASE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT FOR THE KIDS, THAT'S NUMBER 1 AND NUMBER 2 PROVIDE FOR THE SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING OF THE STUDENTS.
OVER AND OVER AGAIN, DIDN'T MATTER HOW WE ASK THE QUESTION.
WE SENT A SURVEY OUT AT THE END OF APRIL, ALMOST 2,000 PEOPLE RESPONDED AND WE ASKED MULTIPLE QUESTIONS, BUT THEY'RE ALL ABOUT THE SAME THING.
WHAT'S MOST IMPORTANT TO YOU OVER AND OVER AGAIN? CAME BACK TO THOSE TWO THINGS, AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AND SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL HEALTH.
THIS IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE IT'S NOT OFTEN THAT YOU SEE THE STATE GIVE YOU $6.4 MILLION AND SAYS OUR INTENTIONS ARE HELP MAINTAIN AND INCREASE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AND PROVIDE FOR THE SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING OF THE KID AND THAT JUST DOVETAILS PERFECTLY WITH WHAT YOU KNOW YOU NEED AS A DISTRICT AND WHAT YOUR STAKE HOLDERS REPEATEDLY TELL YOU.

NOT ONLY MITIGATE THE EFFECTS OF COVID BUT ACCELERATE FORWARD AND GET US BACK ON TRACK TO DO THE IMPORTANT THINGS THAT WE WERE TRYING TO DO PRIOR TO MARCH 2020.

REMEMBER TWO YEARS AGO, WE HIRED EIGHT MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT SPECIALISTS, SIGNIFICANT INVESTMENT FOR THE DISTRICT TO PROVIDE MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING TO KIDS.
AS PART OF THIS GRANT, WE'RE PROPOSING TO ADD MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT SPECIALIST AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL.
WE WOULD GO OUT AND HIRE ADDITIONAL MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT SPECIALISTS TO HELP THEM SEE MORE KIDS AT THE MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL LEVELS.
AS YOU CAN IMAGINE WHAT THOSE BIG SCHOOLS' CASELOADS ARE FULL. THEY GET FULL VERY QUICKLY.
SO BY US BEING ABLE TO ADD MORE, GET TO SEE MORE KIDS.
AS PART OF THIS AS WELL, WE'RE PROPOSING A NEW POSITION CALLED BEHAVIOR INTERVENTIONIST.
THESE INDIVIDUALS WOULD WORK WITH OUR BCBA TO HELP WITH BEHAVIOR ISSUES AS KIDS COME BACK ON CAMPUS.
SOME OF THESE STUDENTS HAVE OBVIOUSLY BEEN GONE FOR OVER A YEAR, DEPENDING ON GRADE LEVEL, THEY MAY HAVE NEVER REALLY BEEN ON CAMPUS BEFORE.
WHENEVER YOU HAVE TRANSITIONS AND KIDS COMING BACK, IT'S HARD FOR SOME STUDENTS AND YOU SEE BEHAVIORS MANIFEST THEMSELVES.
THESE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTIONISTS WOULD BE DEPLOYED OUT ON CAMPUSES TO HELP WORK WITH THOSE STUDENTS AND TEACHERS TO GET THOSE STUDENTS INTEGRATED INTO THE CLASSROOM.

THE PROPOSAL IS TO ADD A 0.5 ON TOP OF THAT AT ALL EIGHT SITES.
YOU KNOW THAT FINALLY WE GOT MATH INTERVENTION TEACHERS TWO YEARS AGO AT ALL THE SITES.
AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL WAS A 0.5 AT EACH SITE, WE'RE PROPOSING TO INCREASE THAT BY 0.5 SO THAT EACH ONE WILL HAVE A 1.0.
A SIGNIFICANT INVESTMENT ON ADDING TEACHERS ONTO CAMPUS TO BETTER WORK WITH KIDS IN SMALL GROUPS AND MASTER THE ESSENTIAL STANDARDS.
AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL, RIGHT NOW WE'RE PROPOSING TO ADD ABOUT 30, 3, 0 SECTIONS TO THOSE MASTER SCHEDULES WHERE TEACHERS WOULD BE ABLE TO FOCUS ON AT LANGUAGE ARTS AND MATH, GIVING THOSE KIDS AN EXTRA CLASS IN EITHER LANGUAGE ARTS OR MATHEMATICS.
NUMBER THREE, WE'RE GOING TO OFFER HUGE SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAM THIS YEAR.
NORMALLY WE HAVE SPECIAL ED, EL, AND HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER SCHOOL.
THIS YEAR WE'RE GOING TO HAVE THOSE THREE SUMMER SCHOOLS, ADD ELEMENTARY, AND ADD MIDDLE SCHOOL.
AT VARIOUS POINTS THIS SUMMER, WE'RE GOING TO HAVE 3,000 KIDS ON OUR CAMPUS.
